CalvinHobbes Posted November 6, 2024 Posted November 6, 2024 My builder ordered some things for our build and I was wondering could I phone up and pay account with my new 0% credit card (helps with cash flow) . He isn't charging us vat, he is reclaiming it. It's just it buys us some time.
crispy_wafer Posted November 6, 2024 Posted November 6, 2024 If merchants then yeah, I do, all my build stuff is on CC, section 75 if nothing else. If it's brand new, make sure you've used it in a chip/pin somewhere first as it may decline over the phone. 1
CalvinHobbes Posted November 6, 2024 Author Posted November 6, 2024 (edited) It's under his name, not mine. Do you think that's ok? It just means less money I need to transfer (for now). Edited November 6, 2024 by CalvinHobbes
MR10 Posted November 6, 2024 Posted November 6, 2024 (edited) Would you not be paying price + VAT though if paying directly? You say he's reclaiming the VAT so this won't be going on your VAT reclaim. Unless I've misunderstood, would you not then be out of pocket as you pay the VAT on the materials (on your credit card) but he reclaims it? Edited November 6, 2024 by MR10 Typo
Blooda Posted November 6, 2024 Posted November 6, 2024 It is unlikely they will accept payment VAT free [unless you are personally VAT registered. If you pay, get them to change the name on the invoice to yours, then you will not have any problems with your VAT return. If they will not change it. Make a note in your covering letter when you come to make a claim. We mentioned something like, "this invoice is from a merchants that only deal with the trade, our tradesman ordered, and we paid with credit card, the credit card statement is available on request".
nod Posted November 6, 2024 Posted November 6, 2024 Pay for the materials net of vat and let him settle the vat Then claim it back later 1
Jenki Posted November 6, 2024 Posted November 6, 2024 As @nod says. He should only charge you for materials and labour less VAT, so you won't be adding this to your VAT reclaim. If he is happy for you to settle his merchant account (less the VAT) instead of paying him then that is for him to balance in his accounts, just make sure you get a receipt for payment received just in case down the road things change. 1
CalvinHobbes Posted November 6, 2024 Author Posted November 6, 2024 Yep I was just going to settle the bill less vat and he can do the reclaim 1
