Can I pay with a credit card?

Recommended Posts

Would you not be paying price + VAT though if paying directly? You say he's reclaiming the VAT so this won't be going on your VAT reclaim.

Unless I've misunderstood, would you not then be out of pocket as you pay the VAT on the materials (on your credit card) but he reclaims it?

It is unlikely they will accept payment VAT free [unless you are personally VAT registered.

If you pay, get them to change the name on the invoice to yours, then you will not have any problems with your VAT return.

If they will not change it.  Make a note in your covering letter when you come to make a claim.  We mentioned something like, "this invoice is from a merchants that only deal with the trade, our tradesman ordered, and we paid with credit card, the credit card statement is available on request".

As @nod says.  He should only charge you for materials and labour less VAT, so you won't be adding this to your VAT reclaim.

If he is happy for you to settle his merchant account  (less the VAT) instead of paying him then that is for him to balance in his accounts, just make sure you get a receipt for payment received just in case down the road things change.
