Hey all

ive got a steel running around 6 metres for a glass sliding door

just wondering how the installers fix it to the steel ?

im cladding the outside ; so if they drill the steel and bolt through I will have to suspend my cladding work .

if they have some ‘special’ screws that actually bite steel then no problem :-)

how do they fix to steel ??

cheers

Tek screws

Is that a trade name, as looking at some of these that come up they don't look like they will drill into an RSJ or similar, maybe through a sheet folded lintel.

They will go into an rsj no problem. Used them to attach wall plate to an rsj and they don't be long drilling through. Obviously depends on your drill as well!!

I'm pretty sure that my 4.5m sliders are fixed at the sides only (using custom metal straps fitted to the outside of the frame and the inside wall.

Need to see if I have any photos of that stage to be sure..

TF supplier has just used similar fixings to attach 2x4 timbers to my steel windframe (which will have 4.5m bifolds underneath it). I'm expecting to use similar to fix the bifold frame to the steel. They go in very quickly and easily, just make sure you don't catch your hand on the pointy end afterwards!
