I need to put in a new soak away as I don't know where the old one is and the gully between my house and patio fills up quickly, it does drain but slowly. The problem I have is the main sewer runs along my back garden, isn't very deep and runs about 1.5 - 2.0 metres from the house wall. I'm worried about disturbing the sewer and I'm convinced the sewer pipe is the same height as where I need to lay a soakaway pipe. I'm conscious of the fact that a soak away should be 5 metres from the house wall. I know I can't discharge it into the sewer too. Does anyone have any advice for me please?

Can you look in manholes in either direction  to measure the pipe depths?

drop it into the sewer, helps keep the pipes clean.

So perhaps the sewage discharges to rivers, during wet weather, are not entirely the water companies fault.
