aquariumwatch
Hi All, Over the last couple of weeks are garage door has been randomly not opening with the remote key fob, it seems now to have given up completely, I have ordered a new pack off 3 fobs and cloned the original remote, but this has made no difference. Last time we got in, I took some pictures of the main unit, see attached, as you can see, the main control box is brown cable, this is the same cable that goes to the main motor, I know there is 4 wires, I am assume, earth, neutral and 2 lives to control up / down. Are there any issues cutting the wire from where the motor is and directly connect this 230/240V to operate the motor? Many thanks who reply's. joe90
BEWARE, there is a transformer on that board the motor may well be 12 or 24 volt so giving it 240 volt is not a good idea. Do you have the original instructions? The boards usually have leds to tell you it has received a radio signal from the fob which will help diagnosis. Most electric garage doors have connections for manual operations so you could connect a switch to those.
aquariumwatch
Thanks for the reply. I did notice the transformer, the instruction's are below, according to this, 230volt ac output for 1 single phase motor (1500w max), we can not access the main control panel as it is behind the door. AR433- plus instructions - updated.pdf (auto-roll.com) 1. Mains power supply in 230volt (BROWN WIRE) 2. Neutral power supply (BLUE WIRE) 3. Earth – to be used to connect both earth wires (GREEN / YELLOW WIRE) 4. Connection to and from motor – neutral (BLUE WIRE) 5. Connection to and from motor - live 230volt (BLACK OR BROWN WIRE) – see below 6. Connection to and from motor - live 230volt (BLACK OR BROWN WIRE) – see below
joe90
So the motor is 240 volt however if you connect a push button to 11 and 13 this should open/shut the door without the remote fobs, if this still does not work the fault is within the control box not fobs. aquariumwatch
Hi, We can not access this control unit as it is behind the garage door so we can not try this, we are trying to open the garage, the only thing we have access to is this brown cable from the motor, hence the question can we cut into this to manually operate the motor. Thanks.
JohnMo
8 minutes ago, aquariumwatch said: only thing we have access to is this brown cable from the motor Could it be the power to garage has just tripped off? If it hasn't would it not be easier to just kill the garage power at the house consumer unit? But not sure it will help anyway either killing power or cutting wire. Obviously no side door to get access via?
aquariumwatch
Hi, Its not tripped, I have checked the main fusebox and all the RCD's are up, sadly, there is no other access to the garage, the only access is via the roller shutter. Thanks.
ProDave
Try lifting the door from the bottom. If it is anything like mine, there is a lot of play in the joint between each segment of the roller, and a couple of spades could probably create a small gap perhaps enough for a slim person to get under and wind it up with the manual handle? This does not help your situation, but is the reason why I would NOT have an electric roller door as the only means to get into the garage.
joe90
Ah didn’t realise you had no access to the garage, try what @ProDave says but if this fails your only option will be to apply mains power to that cable. p.s. Do you have a window you could force/break? Edited July 27 by joe90
SteamyTea
My parents garage doors allowed you to get in with a key on the door handle. The key removed the lock barrel, which was connected to a steel cable that when pulled, released a catch on the motor drive. Never needed to use it as it was very reliable. The wooden frames rotted out before the electrics failed.
Dave Jones
added a ismartgate to mine which gives you infinite opening range and is carplay compatible. https://ismartgate.com/
