BarnBoyBen
Well Hello! I’m Ben. I guess we could see this is day 0 on a journey to a finished ‘forever home’.  We are currently in the throes of understanding our financial possibilities. We have a good chunk of equity in current home and some cash aside to work towards either a new build or conversion in our area (NE Derbyshire).  Once the financial possibilities are clear we will be looking for an opportunity that fits our budget, so here to learn all about the potential pitfalls and risks, as well as the highs and great outcomes so many here have achieved already.  Glad to join you!
MikeSharp01
HI and welcome to THE forum for people like us. We set out on broadly the same premise in 2015 and purchased a plot, with a semi derelict dwelling, with a view to doing something. Now we are getting towards the end - last 10% takes 90% of the time. Â Look forward to hearing more about it and remember - there is no such thing as a silly question. ProDave
The key to the project is the right opportunity, and that may take a while to find. Unfortunately you can't do much actual planning until you know what that is.

There is a bias on this site towards problem descriptions. Posting about success is more to be found in the blogs. Here's a link to what's been said (on this site) about the term " optimism bias "
markc
Good morning and welcome, many will say funding is the key, but finding the plot or (old place to knock down) can be very difficult. I have been looking for 5+ years. Hopefully you drop on a great site and can crack on with it.
