Painting straight line Ceilling to Wall - Tools or steady hand

Recommended Posts

I'm painting the final coats on plastered walls and ceilling and having difficulty getting straight lines.

What type of brush should I use and are there any tools recommended to get a clean finish between wall and ceilling.

I have tried masking tape but as the ceilling is slopping at 40 degrees they are not perfectly straight between wall and ceilling.

A lot depends on the quality of the corner.

Nice smooth crisp plastering with a perfectly smooth, straight transition = easy.  Old knackered ceiling with lots of patched up cracks and a corner that if far from smooth and straight = very hard to get it looking right.

You can buy cutting-in brushes they have a 30 angle on the bristles

or use a quality 2 inch brush with long bristles so you can load lot's of paint up and use a steady hand and work around the room anticlockwise if your right handed.....

Do not buy cheap brushes or rollers or paints, it's false economy.

+1 to all that advice above but especially the YouTube tutorial stuff.

Also bear in mind that when you’re up close and painting it may look a bit shabby however when you get off the steps and stand back it may not be quite so bad.
