Two gang to dimmer and single?

Logan

Recommended Posts

I have a two gang that controls my kitchen lights on one switch and outdoor lights on the other.

I’m wanting to change this to a dimmer for the kitchen and a single switch for the outside.

How do I go about this given the current wiring situ?

Well red is the L feed and the blue and yellow are switched L out.

You need a grid switch with one dimmer module and one switch module.  Wired as before.

Is there any way to do it with a separate dimmer switch plate and a separate one way switch plate?

Not quite. I’ve bought a separate dimmer (for kitchen lights) and separate light switch (for outside light) which I’ll make a new hole for.

There’s only one cable coming down. I was expecting two which has flummoxed me.

As explained earlier, the red core is permanent L feed which will go to both switches.  Easy to do if you have a twin 1G back box.  but I don't see what 2 separate switches achieves compared to the options already suggested?

The reason I got these was to keep all the faceplates the same in the house - the range I’ve got doesn’t have the combi options suggested.

Don't enlarge the hole in the wall yet.

What's wrong with one of each of these:

That would be pretty close to the others and a lot neater than two separate switches.
