Logan Posted December 28, 2023 Posted December 28, 2023 I have a two gang that controls my kitchen lights on one switch and outdoor lights on the other. I’m wanting to change this to a dimmer for the kitchen and a single switch for the outside. How do I go about this given the current wiring situ?
ProDave Posted December 28, 2023 Posted December 28, 2023 Well red is the L feed and the blue and yellow are switched L out. You need a grid switch with one dimmer module and one switch module. Wired as before.
elite Posted December 28, 2023 Posted December 28, 2023 Not a spark, but you should be able to do this with a grid 2 module yoke, wiring same as previous
Mattg4321 Posted December 28, 2023 Posted December 28, 2023 Or a standard 2 gang dimmer and replace one module for a ‘dummy’ on/off module.
Adsibob Posted December 28, 2023 Posted December 28, 2023 Here’s an expensive (but beautiful) solution for you: https://www.corston.com/products/2g-mixed-switch-clear-antique-brass-1t1d 1

Logan Posted December 29, 2023 Author Posted December 29, 2023 Is there a way to do this using a separate dimmer and a separate one way switch?

Logan Posted December 30, 2023 Author Posted December 30, 2023 Not quite. I’ve bought a separate dimmer (for kitchen lights) and separate light switch (for outside light) which I’ll make a new hole for. There’s only one cable coming down. I was expecting two which has flummoxed me.

Easy to do if you have a twin 1G back box. but I don't see what 2 separate switches achieves compared to the options already suggested?
Logan Posted December 30, 2023 Author Posted December 30, 2023 The reason I got these was to keep all the faceplates the same in the house - the range I’ve got doesn’t have the combi options suggested.

Don't enlarge the hole in the wall yet. What's wrong with one of each of these: https://www.cef.co.uk/catalogue/products/368462-1-gang-two-module-data-front-plate-white https://www.cef.co.uk/catalogue/products/185171-10a-dp-1-way-switch-module-white https://www.cef.co.uk/catalogue/products/4872868-220w-1-module-2-way-grid-dimmer-white That would be pretty close to the others and a lot neater than two separate switches.
