machtucker
Hi! I'm looking to get buy some red cedar battens 18mm x 44mm x 1830mm. What I am trying to achieve is shown in the pic. As ever there seems to be lots of different suppliers and it is very expensive but I'm happy to pay fofr the finish/longevity/looks. I was wondering whether anyone can recommend somewhere to buy from? I did find an online retailer that had clearance battens which were one good face and eased edges, which would be fine as noone can see the back and I would just chop a little bit off each end before installing. However....they seem to have all gone. Something similar would be good. Even seconds Many thanks, Ed Edited November 4, 2023 by machtucker
Conor
Look for a local saw mill / lumber. Will be fraction of the price of a online shop or builders yard. They'll cut and plane to your spec if it's not an off the shelf item.
Russell griffiths
Canadian cedar is eye watering expensive at the moment ive just collected £2000 worth and I could probably carry it in two arm fulls. If your dead set on it then have a ring around, if not I would look at an alternative. I had no choice as 90% of my house is covered in it, would I do it again, not a chance. SimonD
You could try Cedar Direct https://www.cedardirect.co.uk/ I've used them and they were very good. Ask for British cedar and price will be a lot less than Canadian. The British is more knotty. They'll machine to the size you want too, but lengths can sometimes be random (although with my order they were all the same).
Mr Punter
You could try English Sweet Chestnut.
