Lal Posted March 8, 2023 Posted March 8, 2023 Cracks near the skylight in the kitchen, we have three sky lights and there are cracks on both ends. House is three years old
Adsibob Posted March 8, 2023 Posted March 8, 2023 Looks like normal settlement after building works. When did the cracks first appear?
Lal Posted March 8, 2023 Author Posted March 8, 2023 This is another crack I’ve noticed in one of the bedrooms. we only moved in to this house in October and I’ve slowly noticed these cracks between now and then.
ProDave Posted March 8, 2023 Posted March 8, 2023 They are joints between plasterboard sheets opening up. Nothing to worry about. Sadly this is largely avoidable if only the builders had a bit of care or knowledge. When boarding around a window or door opening, don't run a sheet down the wall in line with the opening, cut a sheet around the opening so the next joint is not in line with it. Very unlikely to get a crack then. but that takes just a little more time and might waste just a little plasterboard and mass market builders don't want to do either of those. 2 1
Adsibob Posted March 8, 2023 Posted March 8, 2023 the overarching point is that this is nothing to worry about. Wait till the house has gone through a bit more weather changes, then poly filla and repaint. 1
MikeGrahamT21 Posted March 9, 2023 Posted March 9, 2023 Sand them down, wipe over with a damp cloth and let dry, and then get yourself some Tesa 5225 Crack tape, and your choice of finishing filler, gyproc easifill is ideal, fill over the tape and feather in, then sand down, mist coat and paint https://www.brewers.co.uk/product/NT3721805J But yes absolutely nothing to worry about, purely cosmetic 1
