ProDave
I wondered that, but they are such low power even if one went rogue, I could not see it upsetting reception that far. Definitely half a mile away from home I still get no reception on either. I need to get over the brow if the hill for things to work. I do wonder if the O2 mast that went off in December and supposedly has now been fixed is the problem, but nobody seems interested in investigating. Roger440
On 14/01/2023 at 12:40, ProDave said: Okay finally a resolution to the wifi calling issue. Sky have been spectacularly unhelpful, all they can say is wifi calling should be enabled and they even sent me a replacement sim but it did not work still and they could offer no other help. Regarding the lack of signal at home they say the fault at the local mast is fixed but I don't get a signal still. So to try and investigate I asked them to give me the location of the local mast so I could do a signal survey and see if the mast is actually working if I go closer to it. No response from sky and no further help. So i started looking at alternatives. 1P Mobile was one that came up, it uses the EE network and claims to do wifi calling. So i ordered their cheapest PAYG sim to try it. That arrived today, activated it and put it in my phone, and as if by magic, the wifi calling option appeared in the phones menu. The phone can do wifi calling, it just needs to be told by the sim card that the provider supports that, and in spite of what Sky say, it would appear they do not. So I can now once again make and receive calls at home. My next job is get a PAC code, transfer my proper number over to 1P and then tell Sky where to stick their lousy "service". And when the PAYG sim runs out of credit swap it to one of the pay monthly options. The worst part of this has been the untruths and lack of help from Sky mobile. I definitely could not recommend them to anyone. Thats good news. I have exactly the same problem, O2 in this instance. Like sky, a total waste of space. Looks like i need to change provider too. I have the additional, equally unsolvable problem, of my VOIP work phone not working. The internet is off a 4G aerial. The internet is fine. Circa 30mps. The internet suggests EE block them, which who internet is with. They say otherwise, but plenty of people sayimg the are wrong and they block it. Sadly, this needs resolving ASAP as i cant move in until it works. Like the wifi calling issue, nobody at all can actually give you a straight answer! Short of trying every provider until it does work, im out of options. A satellite broadband set up looks to be next. Didnt want to do that. ProDave
And now I have a new riddle to solve "SMS messages from certain senders not being received via wifi calling" This is SWMBO's phone. she is with O2. The basic problem that triggered this chain of events was the O2 signal at our house disappearing in early December never to return in spite of them saying the fault is fixed. So now we are both 100% reliant on wifi calling for anything to work at home. Today SWMBO was trying to get a verification code by SMS to log onto a service. It did not arrive. she then went out, when she got to town, the messages had queued up and she received them. That's strange and while we were discussing it, she received an SMS from someone else. So it can receive them via wifi. So why did she not receive the others. So i sent her an SMS. No that one did not arrive. She sent me one, and it did. So it would appear on her phone when at home and connected via wifi calling she can only receive SMS messages from some people not everyone. Anyone care to work that one out? dpmiller
Is it really zero signal in the house? SMS can come over a *very* sketchy link. Are you *sure* SMS over WIFI is actually happening?
Temp
I dont think you/she us alone. See. https://community.o2.co.uk/t5/Welcome-News/SMS-over-Wifi-Calling/td-p/1526303 So it's not been going very long. Under a year. Was originally promised around 2013 I think. Quote Hi Chris, I have moved home into a one bar signal area (December 2022). I have linked my iphone8 calling to the O2 network by wifi to my router and that is fully working. My problem is that I do not receive SMS messages, or at best hours to days later. Is this because my iphone is rather old and hence non-compatible with wifi? Software updates are not a problem. Looking forward to your reply (much appreciated)! Andy
