So got the bill from the power company for detaching old line from house to be tumbled and doing another at other end to TCU

They should zero rate Some don’t want to or think they don’t have to 

I argued with the electricity company but they wouldn’t budge I told them the gas had zero rated So they agreed 

Then told the gas the same

Cannot reclaim VAT for any labor, should be zero rated to you. I would argue its demolition.

You could also try asking on the HMRCs own VAT forum. I posted a link somewhere.

 

Make sure to point out its part of the demolition process needed to allow construction of a new dwelling and ask if it should be zero rated under section 3.3.4 of VAT 708.

 

I would be inclined not to include the quote itself. Just refer to it as the cost of taking down the overhead power line to the old house being demolished.
