To go off grid is no easy or that cheap a task.

PV, plus batteries, plus generator, that can run a few days without complaint, i.e. continuous duty rated.

What did the quote include for power supply.  Ways to reduce is get someone yourself to do trench digging and backfill.

could well be different now --

Ihave been told ,but not confiremd that they may even let you dig and give you conduit to lay and just pull the cable through and connect .

that would suit me fine --but need to revisit the quote stage soon

Yes I did all the digging and laying conduit for my connection.  All the DNO had to do was pull their cable through the duct I had installed, and connect both ends.  I even filled in the connection pit after they had left.

I think I would rather spend the money on PV and batteries, never before have home batteries been so popular/ different varieties etc.

Maximise the solar to allow for the poor winter months.

pylontech batteries, can be added to as the system grows.

better than writing a cheque to Scottish Power for £15k plus.

Going off-grid is hard. I was speaking to a guy recently who does it and he is without power a lot of the time. He doesn’t need it for heating and hot water though.

As above though you can save a lot of money with a grid supply if you do all the donkey work yourself. All SSEN had to do at my site was pull the cable through and connect it at either end. They even complimented me on my tidy cable trench and kiosk as apparently the previous job was a nightmare.  Although it depends if they have to reinforce the grid supply to make your connection.

The quotes don’t cost anything and you can extend them if you aren’t ready.
