Bungalow Demolition Costs

Recommended Posts

I'm in the middle of demolishing our bungalow, as a result I've asked by a colleague of my wife about the total cost of demolition of a bungalow they've just bought for its plot. Clearly I've no idea as I'm doing mine myself at zero cost, so can anyone give me a clue?

I was about £28,000 to demolish a 4000sq for 2 storey house plus 2 garages including removing the foundations and taking all the material away.

It also cost £1200 to have all the utilities disconnected.

I'd guess £10-15000 depending on the size of the bungalow.

If there are any fittings of value that will reduce the cost.

We clearly got a bargain then!

From memory, our 9 x 10m bungalow cost around £6000 to knock down and take away in late 2014 (Hampshire/Surrey borders). That was the lowest price by some way - I think most quotes were £8-10k.

They didn't do the best job, in that there were a few bits of rubble that weren't cleared away, and some paths were left that arguably should have been cleared.  Took the groundworks guy about an hour in his massive digger to sort it, so no biggie.

Our 3 bed two story house cost us circa £6k.

That was with the hire of a concrete crusher for 5 days. We've already used a great deal of the hardcore.

We recouped about £400 in scrap (copper etc) and all the wood went for free via Gumtree.

The uPVC windows and plasterboard went in a couple of skips.

Our groundworks contractor charged £5k do demolish and cart away our old 180sqm 3 bed, 2 storey house - this was in 2015, SE England. Did it as part of the bigger basement contract so there was obviously some discounting in there.

We had quotes of £10-15k from specialist demo contractors.

We didn't allow burning of timbers on site and we also had no asbestos (paid for a survey) - this can substantially increase the cost. I recall Herb J found it in his render and it added substantially to his costs.
