mike2016
I need to run a fence front to back and want to fix gates to either side of a concrete fence post (new boundary). I tried 100mm x 8 concrete screw but it cracked the center of the concrete post. Then I tried 60mm x 7 concrete screws and they aren't grabbing the concrete securely to hang a gate off. I'm drilling with a bit -1 mm below the screw thread. What's the securest way to attach a 2 x 4 to this concrete post in the position shown below? Thanks!! ProDave
Plain hole all the way through, threaded rod, washer and nut on each side to clamp the whole lot together. Try to miss the rebar.
mike2016
Thanks - was thinking about a through hole but the 100mm x 8mm screw cracked the center section on the previous post quite badly which shied me away. I'll see what sizes I have and I get you about the rebar. Worth a shot anyway! Thanks!
Ferdinand
Another way is to use a 1.2m concrete repair spur that comes with holes already in it, and bolt a wooden fencepost to that so that it does not contact the ground. Set the spur 18-20" into the ground. https://www.jewson.co.uk/p/supreme-concrete-repair-spur-100-x-100-x-1200mm-grey-LSCFE532

PeterW
Drill them all the way through and use a coach bolt or similar and a crap load of some cheap solvent No Nails on the timber for good measure.

A couple of cautions. 1 - The examples there show things like hanging plants not gates. Are they man enough to support your gates? This one is the biggie imo. 2 - There are other similar things: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Postfix-Slotted-Concrete-Fence-Brackets/dp/B00AD8EVEU https://www.rivelinglenproducts.com/wire-anchor-size-1-132-p.asp 3 - Are your posts actually in already? One other option could be to get your local fencer to make you a couple of posts with holes in (they just put a bit of pipe in the mould). If was doing it I'd make them out of stainless sheet, folded in a U, that goes right round the post and clamp rather than drill anything. Maybe with a bit of rubber to stop "slip". Closest I could find ready made was these: https://www.amazon.co.uk/GAH-Alberts-Anchor-Hot-Dip-Galvanised-217631/dp/B0029MCV22/ref=asc_df_B0029MCV22/? I can't tell though whether they are the right size!
mike2016
I did the threaded bar and bolts through the post and these are holding fine. Might try a lit of loktite for good measure! Thanks!
