Relocating washing machine - extending water supply

Recommended Posts

Good morning,

I am getting a new kitchen but for the new design I would like to relocate my washing machine.

I have a question about extending the water supply. Currently, water is supplied to the dishwasher (first yellow highlighted appliance on the left), sink (middle yellow highlight) and washing machine (right). The stopcock is under the sink. I believe the waste is located near to the dishwasher.

How easy would it be for a kitchen installer to install a washing machine (and condensing dryer above it) in the red area on the left?

can the water supply be extended to the washing machine that far, presumably behind the units?

Thanks

matt

Is this in the context of a new kitchen install?  Or just wanting someone to alter what is there?

A kitchen refit it would be easy, floor up if necessary or run pipes under or behind units.

Changing what's there, much harder to run pipes under units and almost impossible behind, and taking the floor up not practical without usually wrecking the present floor covering.

Welcome.

Competence.

What you are asking for is basic, normal practice for a competent kitchen installer. Unless your system has some particular quirk....

The only question I'd be asking is - Can you show me examples of your previous work : not just verbal recommendations, actual examples of the tradespersons work.

Water supply is easy that’s a 15mm pipe.

Waste water removal is far harder as you will need a 40mm pipe.

Harder to hide and it needs to fall away from the machine to drain correctly.

Waste water can go in a 32mm pipe tbh, if it's a single appliance, but with the number of bends and the distance Bruce is right, go for 40mm to be sure.

It is a very simple job, and just needs the existing kitchen out of the way and new pipes run along at skirting level for cold feed and waste.

Remember, if you buy the right condenser drier you will find on the rear a couple of silicone hoses. These can be disconnected to allow the condensate to drop into the washing machine upstand trap eg you will never have to empty the water collection tray :)
