Dear all, I am about to install the main incoming and exhaust MVHR vents to my new build and I have a choice between North and

East. Ducting to the North will give me cool air when it's hot in summer ( if ever !) but ducting to the East may offer warmer morning air during the year. The prevailing Southwesterlies rule out ducting to either of these sides. Please give me your thoughts.

I am not sure that the air temperature would have a big enough difference to worry about.

We tend to think that the North side is cold, but that is more to do with solar radiation than the actual air temperature.

And at night (50% of the year), it makes no difference at all.

There will always be exceptions i.e. a windless back alley, but that is another story.

Agree - unless it is a very still day (or "windless back alley" effect), then the air temperature is going to be about the same. The cowl might warm up in direct sun compared to deep shade, but I fail to see how that would change the air temperature to a point you might notice it.

Other factors for location would include noise and external environment (e.g. avoid facing inlet to a busy road).

When I have thought this through for our build the only thing that I became concerned about was the way the wind swirls around the building that ensures that the prevailing wind does not blow the exhaust air over to the inlet. It struck me that inlet air temperature drops out of the equation, as having a negligible overall effect,  across the year unless you have the opportunity of a trombe wall or some such.

Thanks guys, yes I am having the inlet "upwind" of the exhaust ( prevailing wind). Guess it's down to athletics for our cottage.
