Paul Alan
Morning We have found our existing property foundations to be 1 meter below ground. How much of that depth will need to ge filled with concrete please? The foundations should be dug out by Thursday and BC are coming that day. Many thanks
TonyT
Normally trial holes next to the existing building are dug to determine this info and let the structural engineer design the foundations. Layers of mesh in the concrete, potential method of tying into existing foundation, ie rebar resined into existing foundation and into new trench. best to ask the SE

Many thanks Assuming that the BCO is happy with the depth, i think trench fill is usually poured to 150 mm below the ground level

The house foundations are 1 meter down but the concrete only looks 200mm at most? I thought we might have to follow suit? Many thanks
WWilts
225mm thick strip foundation was what our architect drew. BCO found that ok.

Many thanks Ideally fill until a whole number of brick/block courses below DPC. Normally for "fully filled" I think that's 3 brick courses (or 1 block). Otherwise 6 brick (2 blocks). I think the minimum depth of concrete is 450mm but best check.

Temp
Which way is best depends on the cost of concrete vs bricks and labor, the weather and your attitude to risk.

I'm a father of two, less risk is best.
