Barryscotland Posted September 14, 2021 Posted September 14, 2021 Probably yet another stupid question but is it OK to fit the windows and french doors before the roof is slated? Will the timber frame settle a bit and then things wont open after the weight of the slate is added?
nod Posted September 14, 2021 Posted September 14, 2021 Absolutely fine Your scaffolding should be right under the soffit So no chance of anything falling through You could stand some ply in front of f doors bifold etc
markc Posted September 14, 2021 Posted September 14, 2021 As above and yes the timber frame will settle a bit but it is going to do that over the next few years anyway hence the compressible strip around windows etc.

That's what we did just under 5 years ago. Our TF included a warm roof 3rd floor which was sarked. The frame and windows were erected in Nov. The slates went on in Feb. No probs at all. Edited September 14, 2021 by TerryE Meant sarked rather than racked.
Barryscotland Posted September 14, 2021 Author Posted September 14, 2021 Windows getting fitted this week then, many thanks for the assurances 1
Conor Posted September 14, 2021 Posted September 14, 2021 No problem. We had some scratches on one frame from falling slates.. happened when scaffolders were moving boards and I didn't clean up before hand and debris dropped down. Keep your scaffolding clean and don't throw slates...
TerryE Posted September 14, 2021 Posted September 14, 2021 (edited) We had an external stone skin added to our TF the following summer. Our windows were triple glazed Internorm Aluclad. One thing that we did do was to cover them all with a building grade polythene protection pretty much soon after they went in. The last stage of the stone work was to careful cut around the widow frame / stonework junction, remove the polythene sheets then do the final pointing fillet. Edited September 14, 2021 by TerryE
craig Posted September 14, 2021 Posted September 14, 2021 Simple answer, yes. Don’t worry about it, standard install timescale.
