For what it's worth we found fixing one end then moving (hoiking) the free end about and fixing in every batten on the way helped to tame the banana boatds into straighter lines. Small gaps are a swine though!

Jig to sit on the battens (hooking through gaps with small bolts) helped align screws where eyeballing through gaps isn't viable / borrowed helpers can't eyeball for toffee. Will try to find a pic!

M6 bolts through a piece of alloy channel spaced so that they pick up one edge of each board. Outer two long enough to sit on batten. Inners only touch boards. Drill holes for screws then slot to outer edge.

doesn't always help but i leave the packers/spacers wedged in for a week on wood that is likely to cause a problem. sometimes works sometimes doesn't.

Worst parts pull out and replace.

The other thing that doesn't help is the way one board in 40 has a significant bend in the last 300 mm.

I've learned to inspect each board carefully now: I run a sanding pad along each board to get rid of the splinters on the edges, otherwise my hand starts to look like a hedgehog. Twists in a board aren't a problem: but I really didn't expect short curves to exist at the end of otherwise straight boards.
