ToughButterCup Posted August 4, 2021 Posted August 4, 2021 Absolutely certain that I'd cut this straight ..... Sometimes, when working on your own, you really can't see how knackered you are . 1 2
markocosic Posted August 8, 2021 Posted August 8, 2021 Then you wait until the sun comes out and dries all the wood for you just to really annoy you!
markocosic Posted August 8, 2021 Posted August 8, 2021 For what it's worth we found fixing one end then moving (hoiking) the free end about and fixing in every batten on the way helped to tame the banana boatds into straighter lines. Small gaps are a swine though! Jig to sit on the battens (hooking through gaps with small bolts) helped align screws where eyeballing through gaps isn't viable / borrowed helpers can't eyeball for toffee. Will try to find a pic! 1
markocosic Posted August 8, 2021 Posted August 8, 2021 M6 bolts through a piece of alloy channel spaced so that they pick up one edge of each board. Outer two long enough to sit on batten. Inners only touch boards. Drill holes for screws then slot to outer edge. 1
Pocster Posted August 8, 2021 Posted August 8, 2021 Don’t worry . I can’t cut straight to save my life .
joe90 Posted August 8, 2021 Posted August 8, 2021 Wood always moves (unfortunately) some more than others ?♂️
Dave Jones Posted August 8, 2021 Posted August 8, 2021 doesn't always help but i leave the packers/spacers wedged in for a week on wood that is likely to cause a problem. sometimes works sometimes doesn't. Worst parts pull out and replace.
Happy Valley Posted August 8, 2021 Posted August 8, 2021 Looking at the shape it's created I am a fan of your work ? 1
ToughButterCup Posted August 9, 2021 Author Posted August 9, 2021 (edited) The other thing that doesn't help is the way one board in 40 has a significant bend in the last 300 mm. I've learned to inspect each board carefully now: I run a sanding pad along each board to get rid of the splinters on the edges, otherwise my hand starts to look like a hedgehog. Twists in a board aren't a problem: but I really didn't expect short curves to exist at the end of otherwise straight boards. Edited August 9, 2021 by ToughButterCup
