Also interested in these units, seem to be good value but not sure about reliability?

With a two year guarantee and BPC 30mins drive away, I'm prepared to take that gamble. I'm saving £2k over Zehnder units!

I spoke to them today and they haven't quite got their heads round these units yet and weren't able to answer my technical questions. A bit more homework required, but I'm about 80% sure I'll be buying two smarty 3 units this week.

2 units because of size of house?

Yes. 315m², air volume of 900m³ means I need an overall flow rate of about 600m³/hr. A single unit would struggle and due to the layout of the house the pressure losses in the long duct runs would be huge. Two units work much better.

I'd be inclined to go for a larger, single Zehnder unit based on my experience to date.

Not sure if you have or not but I would 100% get the system designed by a pro e.g. Green Building Store and see what they recommend.  My air volume is circa 500m³ so I wouldd think maybe the larget Q600 could do you?

Both my neighbour (ventilation specialist) and two other companies have recommended two units. I had one company do a design (they insisted) and tbh I wasn't impressed and have done a much better job myself. I had initially wanted a single Zehnder but with the layout (three stories) the pressure losses would mean the unit would struggle and be noisy. I come from the water industry where we routinely oversize pumps for longer life, better efficiency and future proofing... Taking the same approach to my ventilation.

Sounds good to me then, just a shame fromt he amount of space the units take up but sounds like you have enough of that :)

It will be 3 months or so before I need one so please share your homework ?

If your French is up to it, there is a VERY detailed TOP 15 mvhr list on a Belgian DIY site that includes the Salda Smarty. You need to ask for a password to read it - they want to keep commercial activity off the site. They gave it a very good rating - high quality products, excellent documentation and clearly built for cold climates. The downside was a bit noisy and disappointingly expensive. Being rip-off France and Belgium, the price is around 2,700 euros!! It's an absolute bargain at bpc. The website is bricozone.be/vmcdf and the list is titled Quelle VMC-DF choisir ?

My salda smartys arrived last week. They are reassuringly heavy and solid!!!

Noise not so much of an issue for me as they'll be in the basement plant room and I've attenuators and all ducts.

How are you getting on with these units. Are you using them yet?

These are one of my options (3x 1.1 unit) along with a Vent Axia Kinetic Advanced S - we are 160 sq m
