Pocster
Got 2 of these to install . It says to install the element first before mounting on the wall . Should I let the sparky do this ? . Or would he expect that to be already done ? .
Pocster
Presumably the element goes in the left fitting in the 2nd photo . I.e when on the wall would be bottom left . Just turn rad upside down . Take cap off . Put element rod in - tighten up - that it ??
Gone West
Yup. Does the towel rail already have the fluid filled.

I’m tempted to just drill and fit to the wall with no element in . Remove it - fit element ;then leave for sparky .
joe90
Easy peesy to put the element in, they have a rubber o ring to make water tight so hand tight then a “tweet” with a spanner but don’t overtighten.
Gone West
We've got three electric towel rails which I fitted. Once connected up I turned them on with the top vent plug removed to allow the fluid to expand. Some fluid may come out of the plug hole when it's hot so best to drape an old towel around it. When it's up to temperature turn it off and refit the vent plug.
Pocster
Is the position relative to the electric point critical ? 2 green dots are first fitting . Horizontal green ,base of rad ( add a bit if the element was installed ) then a rough flex line .
Pocster
The rads approx 120cm by 50cm . Guess I’m wondering how high ( or low ) up the wall should it be ???
joe90
Make the flex short enough so it does not catch on anything / trip hazard.
Mr Punter
I have the rads about centred horizontally on the flex outlet and the bottom rung of the rad about 250mm off the floor.

Our towel rails are 150mm off the floor and the electric cable loops down from the thermostat to the wall plate. The thermostat controls the temperature of the towel rail and a timer controls when it's on. 1

Pocster
Just bought 250 mixed size grub screws off ebay for 8 quid . Best thing is they come in a box with a lid ! ?
Pocster
Fitting was a faff but it’s on the wall with element in ( element insertion was easy ) . As I put the element in liquid came out as I displaced it . Assumed it would be oil or something but as far as I can tell just plain water . PeterW
21 minutes ago, pocster said: Though this sounds interesting BS from the manufacturer ? Not at all - it stops steam bubbles forming in the water on the elements which is what makes the noise as they warm up. Sometimes called a wetting agent, or water wetter too..!!
