I'm planning to buy myself a couple of bar stools for the kitchen for Christmas, and I wondered if anyone had recommendations?

The kitchen is dark grey textured worktops and off white cupboard doors.

The two priorities are "comfortable to sit on", and "robust".

In the absence of a better choice, I might go for iKea Franklyn as I have these in a student house and they fold up, but are also *very* solid.

A more recent design may be preferable.

We have the ones that are height adjustable and swivel, with a low back.  Plastic top.  Good for a breakfast bar and you don't need to move them to get on / off, just swivel and go.

Perhaps not good for pile sufferers.

I’m a big fan of the Tolix design. They’re definitely robust.

Agreed, although be careful about knock-offs. We ordered a sample from one place, which was fine, then ordered three more, which arrived as slightly different (and unpleasant) colours, complete with overspray and crooked welding.

After years of looking, thinking and procrastinating, we ended up going for Ercol bar stools in black:

Not cheap, but we got them locally in a sale. I've been amazed at their durability. The paint still looks brand new, and they remain rock solid despite the best efforts of our teenagers.
