Mug!  Cancel the order and split the winnings with me for my fine advice.

Sods Law I put a small one in and they'll want a bigger one for something else. Something else to come off the tax bill at least.

Got the hatch in this morning. If that's not good enough access I don't know what is. I can get up through there on a set of steps. I was making too much dust I thought with the multi tool, so resorted to a pad saw. Painted the cut edges with some D4 and left to dry. The FlipFix hatch is a doddle to fit:

I filled where some old pipes went through with intumescent foam.

I'll get BG back in now.

Edit: There was some crap up there in the vicinity of the hatch, sawdust, bits of copper pipe and pb. That plus loads of bits of broken brick. Vacuumed it all away and left clean & tidy.

You only needed a small inspection cover but this will give you the benefit of being able to send up a street urchin should you wish to give the rest of the brickwork a coat of paint!

Or an extra room to rent

? I put a hatch in for BG to inspect the flue.

The BG engineer who came last decided it was the "loft". Said on the lines it could be a problem if you were clambering about in the loft and knocked the flue. Forget for a minute you can't get in there at all easily, the space above the bathroom extension, because of the flue.

Whatever I'll strap it up to the wall behind and roof joists above.
