Boxing In A Boiler

In can't be ar$ed, on a downer, no mojo mood. Made one cut on the saw then put it away. Bored with it now. Can't decide how best to make this angle joint super solid. Probably a lap joint/biscuit/screw/gorilla glue. Tomorrow or the next day...

That appears to have gone backwards? You had a side frame up at one point. ?

I've decided to mitre the corner to soften the look. That whole side will be on hinges like one big door.

Still doing floor to ceiling or are you stepping it back in over the top of the boiler?

Chamfering the corner does indeed seem to soften the look. The Fakita recip saw and Parkside multi tool made an appearance. The 45deg lap joints done on the DeWalt radial arm saw. I'll trim the top one once the Gorilla glue has set. Reckon I might need another vertical member at the change of angle. This is going to be one big, hinged door covered in plasterboard. It'll look a bit tidier with a good sanding. The black marks are from the coating on the Saxton blades coming off and mixing with the Gorilla glue.

Idiot boy I am! ?

I should have glued the angle joints first and let them set. Only having one screw in, when I then screwed the upright on it's likely slightly twisted along its length. This has pulled two of the angle joints to less than 45deg.

Perfect 45deg:

The one below, less than 45deg:

Too eager with the glue! I should have left the glue out for now. (Makes it harder anyway to do extra housing joints in the pieces). It might improve when I get the glue snots off and plane the slight joint overhangs but not enough I don't think.

Guess the plasterboard cover will just have to "give" a bit!

Tidied up a bit. Bit of planing and sanding. Not finished yet.

I was going to cover this with fire resistant pb. Thinking maybe instead to cover with MDF, maybe 9mm. Would I get away with 6mm? MDF will take a paint finish better than pb and be lighter I reckon.

It'll all be infilled with sound absorbing Rockwool. Might do the hinge side next.

I would prefer plasterboard.  While your boy is skimming it he could go over the ceiling.

I wouldn't plaster it. In effect it'll be a door.

That ceiling might be coming down.

Why’s that ? So you can access the non functional ufh in the bathroom ?

Because I want to put a bfo I beam in over 3 walls. One span is over 6m though. That's for another thread!

It's only money stopping me! ?

Found 3 old, plain steel, slightly rusty, 100mm hinges, they'll do for my "door". Really heavy duty. Might give them a quick citric acid bath as a treat.

I always seem to make up a hinge jig per project, for whatever hinge I'm using and then scrap it! For use with my diddy Bosch router.

Always come out a treat mind, even in crappy softwood or reclaimed rough stuff. Usually out of flooring t&g offcuts or MDF.

Might try and keep this one and write on it what it's for then give it a coat of varnish.

How’s this cupboard coming along?

See the last photo? That far.

Bored now as SWMBO's not letting me dig the stairs room up. I'm retreating to the garage every evening now in protest and having a good shift around / tidy.

Waiting on some duct rated Cat-5e at the mo for the weekend's fun running power and comms to the gate. Hopefully not too cold that the SWA sheath breaks! ?

Why finish one project when you can flit between many!
