Hi we are currenly building a passive house in Norfolk, the section below is of the house. On the external leaf we have a counterbattern and vent panel with a through colour render...

The issue I have is the section of EPS at ground level we wanted to clad with a upvc sheet upto floor level. What I need to know is what can we use to bond the upvc to the EPS and has anyone done this before or could any one suggest a material they have used before, we didnt want to use render...

Thanks

I have the same issue. I know that some have used 2mm aluminium sheet (the type used to form gutters) and just screwed it into the EPS 300 perimeter.

My perimeter is only EPS 70 to too soft for fixings, I'm planning on using Ubiflex (the alternative to lead flashing stuff) and will look to bond it on with something like pink grip. The backfill should hold it in place.

Thats interesting, I was looking aluminium as we have Alutec barge & Facsia. We thourght we could have a batten at the top to hold in place and maybe an edgeing kerb below ground to hold the bottom, just concerned about how long it will stay bonded to the EPS

Out of interest, why go for that kerb design - which is to support a brick or block skin - and not just a straight ring beam ..?

Try polyurethane adhesives. I have Stuck cement roof tiles to EPS., to do the same job you are doing and that works plus I have stuck upvc, roughened the upvc first, to wood with the same stuff so it should work as it sticks to both.

PU adhesives would be my choice, but I would want to do some test on them first.

Steam, boiling water, freezing and UV light (what sunbeds are for).

I have a couple of rows of brick slips stuck to the Peripor EPS foundation upstand around my porch. I used PU gel glue and they're still there three years later.

Have you checked with building control. Ours has a problem with the up stand as he thinks vermin will eat into it and wants it rendered. I have to agree with the vermin issue its how we were going to finish it. Our current plan is mesh and render, then brick slips where it is visible.
