Pocster
I wish one day to have an electric car . There’s a multitude of different chargers , but as I don’t have the vehicle nor the charger I can’t select anything . Presumably it’s just a meaty cable off the consumer unit to the charger ? To future proof what’s the meatiest cable I could put in even if it’s overkill ? ?? Edited June 25, 2020 by pocster

Maximum single phase charger is 7Kw from memory so 10mm is what they seem to specify. Can you not get near the meter as ideally you should not run this via the CU
ProDave
I still think we are at the VHS / Betamax stage with car chargers. I do hope one day there will be be one standard charger?

They suggest you don't run large loads for long periods through a CU - this is a load that runs at full power for hours.

Surely the charger's supply needs protection and and MCB is an MCB whether it's in the main CU or another box...
