Beroboyz Posted June 20, 2020 Posted June 20, 2020 Hi, anyone else imported anything for your new build?
Temp Posted June 20, 2020 Posted June 20, 2020 (edited) It turned out the stone flooring we liked had to be imported from somewhere like Greece as it was out of stock in the UK. UK vendor gave us predicted dates but warned shipments frequently got delayed 4-6 weeks while waiting for space on a ship. They were right. We also imported some light fittings from Belgium and had a failed attempt to import a glass door. Seller returned our deposit after failing to deliver. You can certainly reclaim VAT paid in the EU at the moment but after Brexit the VAT situation on imports makes it complicated. Edited June 20, 2020 by Temp
Temp Posted June 20, 2020 Posted June 20, 2020 If you are importing direct from Egypt (outside the EU) you need to check if there are any tarriffs or duty to be paid in addition to UK VAT. Typically imports will be held at customs or a clearing agent/forwarder until you have been contacted and paid up. There will also be a handling fee for the agent.
Gone West Posted June 20, 2020 Posted June 20, 2020 We imported our Genvex Combi 185LS direct from Denmark when we were in the EU. It was a lot cheaper than buying from the UK dealer. The disadvantage is of course that if anything goes wrong it's much more difficult to sort out. I would have bought it from the UK dealer if it had been only a little more expensive, but over £3000 was too much to lose.

Mr Punter Posted June 20, 2020 Posted June 20, 2020 With heavy stone materials it is often handling, cutting, finishing, packing, storage and delivery that make up the bulk of the cost. How are they being shipped?
