canalsiderenovation
Quick question - if you have Internorm sliders so you have a key lock internally, and is one actually needed. I'm thinking for insurance etc? One company is suggesting we need safety glass for the gable in case of an accident etc. Is this a necessary expense? joth
It'll depend on the insurance company, ours absolutely requires all windows have locks, but they specifically say they'll honour claims if we forget to use them.
MikeSharp01
building control will confirm what glass you need as a minimum.
canalsiderenovation
Building regs doesn't call for safety/toughened glass in a gable but they are suggesting it as it could cause injury if smashed over head. Where I've had patio doors before they have just locked on the handle from inside with no key lock so I hadn't really thought of it until comparing quotes. I wouldn't be fussed on it unless home insurance companies said you must.
Russell griffiths
I think the new building regs want locking handles on everything. Tbh a locking handle versus a non locking handle will probably be pennies, so why not just have them all locking. We decided in the end to fit laminated glass throughout and the cost difference was minimal I think less than 2% over the whole cost.
dpmiller
Our uPVC 2G came with locking handles on every opening, and little plastic caps to press into the keyholes of any openers that needed to be escape-capable.
canalsiderenovation
Thanks for the response. I'll raise it with Internorm. The different Internorm quotes vary so much and I'm trying to clarify exactly what is and isn't included to get fair comparisons....
