Having an extension built in a few weeks and can’t decide on flat or sloping roof. The house will be to sell on, so was thinking of flat as being cheaper. what’s your thoughts?

Looking to set up a security camera system at home. Possibly 4 cameras and ability to store video too. any recommendations for a self install

Just the way it is I guess. What I need is some revised temp compensation settings to try. @PeterW ATM leaving off overnight is saving me a lot of cash and heating not too bad either. It’s never going to be great I guess in this weather.
-
@ProDave here’s the instructions. The delta to flow is plus 5 deg or supposed to be. Mine is set at 37 and when the return of the pump temp drops to 34 it switches on again until reaching the return of 37 and so on.
-
What do you reckon @ProDave?
-
It is on this unit but I can read the flow too. So for example I set the return to 37 and the flow will read 40. Always a 3 degree delta. The input is always entered by selecting return temp.

@PeterW I’m around 74kw now when I switch the UFH pump off from 12 until 5 in the morning as opposed to 113kw leaving it on 24/7. We pay £0.1155 a KW so over a month that way it saves about £140. Temps are -3 here in the morning so I’m keeping a daily log on usage. I did try your previous advice on temp compensation settings but the return flow went too low, can you advise on settings to keep my return flow at 37 please and I will try it out

@PeterW do you think it’s worth trying weather compensation settings again?
-
Third floor is as and when. It’s a movie room so has occasional use. First floor rads on from 7am to midnight albeit only 4 of them. I hate rads in y bedroom and never use them and ufh 24/7 although I’m getting better results on electricity by switching off from 12 until 5am. House is still warm when we get up and saves about 30kw.
-
@PeterW is it worth playing with the temp compensation settings? Last 24 hours I used the timer to knock it off at midnight and back in at 5am that gives us 74kw. Better ?
-
Can’t understand how the rating reflects the build standard as I project managed this house together with building regs personnel and I personally rock wooled and insulated every single area inside the house. All the outside was cavity with k rendered block walls, insulation boards, thermo blocks, dry walled and skimmed. if the heat pump ever packs in, I will never replace it and go gas instead. They just can’t warm up enough in the cold so what’s the point of them really. Huge expense for a huge cost in electricity and no way is it a saver. At least gas is not affected directly by cold. Sorry, rant over

@PeterW any updates on this topic? Now due to the temp drop this week, my consumption has gone to 113kw in a 24 hour period so eager to sort the weather compensation if it helps reduce. Or something else. @PeterW need your help please.
-
Yea that’s an option, it’s finding the right one really. Any suggestions?
-
I have been thinking about an upgrade of my 5 zone temp sensors to something that I can programme to set the temperature back a few degrees overnight and then ramp up around 5 am. I have only off/on option now via a timer and the ashp does not have any programmable options with regards to temperature. Something like a Hive system be good. What’s your thoughts guys? Heres my current stats.
-
Thanks @Temp that’s reassuring at least. I did try to switch the ashp from 12am until 5am to save a bit but the consumption is the same as I guess it has to reheat the slab.
-
@Temp thanks for the feedback, I don’t use the ASHP for DHW but have a solar and immersion heater. Do you think it’s performing OK as it is? What would the COP be?
-
Just an update @PeterW I can’t seem to get the consumption in Kw of electricity below 50. My return temp to ashp is 37 and is left on 24/7 for ufh. Would really like to try weather compensation if any good. Or anything else really. What do others burn per day on electricity?
-
@PeterW is that the information you require?
-
-
@PeterW I have somewhere. Will have to look. Im only really interested in getting the ground floor sorted. The rads are switched on as and when needed.
-
@PeterW ground floor ufh approx 14m x 12m with 5 zones first floor about same with rads third floor too but don’t use rads very much it’s an attic room

Not had any replies now for a while ? Latest update is that I have found setting the return to 37 on the ASHP and temp stats to about 18 for the UFH, leaving on 24 hours give me about 50kwh. That’s for the whole house, not just the heating. how does that sound? I tried to switch the pump off from midnight to 5am but makes no difference to electricity consumption. Guess it uses quite a lot of energy to get the slab up again. I would like a bit more experimentation on the temp compensation, which I did start to do using Peters recommendations but didn’t quite work. Peter - would you like to discuss further?
