Just an update, copied what TerryE has done but have had to put it in a lockable box with insulation. Still not sure about the stop valve and the double check valve in a chamber, just have to wait to see what he says at inspection.

Hi all Just looking for some advice on a new temporary water supply we’re having connected, looked around the forum and there are a few Bits from 2016 so not sure if regs have changed much. We are having a tap as close to the boundary as possible so as little digging as possible.Anglian water are going to dig up the road connect a water meter at the property boundary and we have to do the rest. Here are a few pics thar I’ve found are we looking for the same thing? Does anyone have any pics to share and maybe some tips on making box and where to get materials. Looked into this and think this will be best option as we don’t have to organise all the services together we will be able to lay water without any further inspection. Regards. James

Just a quick bump, I know your all probably busy cracking on with your own projects but can’t continue with this stage until we know what we are doing, don’t want to get this wrong. As above some great advice but not sure how to tie all together. If we apply parge coat from floor to wall plate( does this become vcl too) If not can you help with materials and how we would tie it all together to the taped PIR ceiling. Thanks james

Thanks or all the great advice sorry I haven’t replied sooner, as been away to lakes with family. So it looks like I’m going to give all external walls a skim of sound coat plus, if I can get hold of any. I understand this will aid the air tightness to the building but will this also form the vcl or should we be adding a layer of something? what material and where would it be applied. Thanks James

Hi looking for some advice on a few points, We’ve reached this stage at the moment. (See photo) and trying to do as much of the build ourselves now that we have a watertight shell. (Naturally ventilated) We’ve been doing a bit of reading but not really getting anywhere, more confused than anything. I see a lot of different methods and materials being used when it comes to air tightness and VCL's We are in the middle of adding pir to the sloping ceiling with 150mm in between the rafters and planning on maybe 60mm underneath with all joints taped to form the VCL, and battens to create service cavity. 1, Architect has specified 100mm loft roll in between rafters at ceiling level with 350mm over that, could we put pir inbetween rafters and tape over rafters to continue VCL? 2, does a parge coat act as a VCL for walls?  3,How would we go about making the expansion joint around first floor, floorboards air tight as we have missed the opportunity to use tony trays. Seems ok to me, I’ve been paying £6.10 + VAT per m2 for DriTherm 32.

Can anyone tell me what thickness PIR i would require if I were to use 180mm frametherm 32 or 35 between rafters to achieve 0.14? Thanks

I would like to thank everyone for their help and great advice. I was considering using two layers of frametherm with PIR underneath, but the trusses aren’t spaced out evenly due to the dormers. So I was wondering how easy is frametherm to cut and work with? When using the celotex calculator it asks for rafter spacings, most are at 600mm centres but there’s are a few which are less. Should I choose the 600mm option or will I recieve incorrect calculations? See attached photo. Thanks James.

Rafters are 220mm deep

Hi all, I’m building a storey and a half house and trying to find the best way of insulating the sloping part of the ceiling. Here is the specification we currently have, I would like some advice on the best (easiest and most cost effective) way to achieve this u-value. All advice welcome. Thanks James

Hi all, just a quick one - we recently had a local haulage company supply a HIAB and operator for a day to lift our roof trusses should I be paying VAT? Take a look at the invoice I have received and let me know what you think, they are insisting I can claim it back at a later date, I’m not so sure. Thanks James
