  1. Don’t like giving them the ‘heads up’ on an issue - to desperate to slap a council tax bill on me . Out of interest how long is ‘temporary ‘ in their definition??? cheers
  2. Hey all We are living in temp accommodation whilst I do the build ; the boss is finding this difficult!! If later we moved into the build and it wasn’t complete but had a usable bathroom would the bco sign it off as complete because we are living in it ? My concern is once that happens we only have 3 months to submit all the vat returns and yet the truly completed project ( and therefore valid receipts ) could be another year away . So can I live in it but not have bco sign it off ???? ?
  3. What about a roller with pump ? this a good compromise??
  4. I’ve got a ton of painting to do in my new build and I looked into this . It’s difficult to find someone who does it internally . Can you do it yourself ? Or is that asking for trouble ???? ?
  5. And I have the best avatar !
  6. Good for you ! but I just borrow no pension - don’t trust them / the state Must make your own way forwards....
  7. Right ! its all bollocks “ deterimental to the local amenity “ blah blah blah took me 5 years to get planning . Analyse every reason for refusal and then look for fact - appeal . You can’t smash the ice cube but you can chip away at the edges . Takes time and money . You’ve only lost once you quit .....
  8. Must admit I did about 3000 wire ties by hand with pliers ! once I was done SE then said could of used zip ties ? so with hind sight use a battery tool !
  9. I assume trusses are cheaper ??
  10. You mean like this ? then I’m going to put 50mm pir over the lot . Followed by aluminium foil tape on all the joints in the pir and around any protruding timber . It’s a lot of work ?
  11. Even I might finish my build before your bathroom is complete ?
  12. Yep ; I contacted them each . all seemed really helpful . There are companies that do all this for you and arrange utility installation but at a cost ......
  13. The SE ‘s head is under the blade ?
  14. After much waiting ..... architect still needs convincing so went straight to SE Assuming a 1.5 ton car and taking into account my roof/floor structure he quickly worked out point load at a tyre of 25kpa so well within the 150kpa of the vac insulation. Whilst my architect will require a sworn statement in blood from him that this is ok - I can get in and order !!!
  15. Might be worth doing it all through an Ltd for tax purposes ....
  16. I’d assume so for a small development. Though perhaps that could be ‘haggled’ as a detail once planning achieved ...
  17. A nice 3 year plan ( assuming that’s how long planning is valid for before you start ) - can net you a nice mortgage free property ....
  18. Then you need to do it cleverly ...... ?
  19. Keep 2 for yourself live in 1 once built . Then move into the other once built . No tax ?
  20. Done Ski ing once !; it's more work that building a bloody house! i.e. I'm no natural!
  21. Agree ! It’s pot luck with these websites . I do exactly as Dave says I ask on fb - someone always knows someone ?
  22. I bought a rotating china unbranded laser you can’t see the laser outside for love nor money ! . Comes with an ir sensor that beeps faster as you approach the level laser . Been brilliant ! . Also have a Stanley cubix for internal levelling - dead good also . I think with those 2 and a spirit level can’t imagine I can find an excuse not to be level !!!
