I'm not 100% convinced. But if it's cheaper than a staircase why not?. Also it will look cool - I mean a nice lift - upmarket. Just a thought at this stage...... What are the regs?. if I have a lift I assume I must have a staircase somewhere in the event of lift failure or fire. I plan to have a staircase also but it would be external. Wonder if @Onoff wants to build me one once he's finished his bathroom of course!

The more I think the more I like . My plan was to have an internal helical staircase which I assume will cost me a kidney . Anyone had a lift installed ? Wondering about costs .

Building on a plot with difficult access...
Pocster replied to Mulberry View's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
Hey Don’t worry always a solution . My plot has awkward access also . Obviously without seeing your plot I can only make rough suggestions . Material deliveries use a hiab . If that’s still a problem gets lots of materials delivered then crane into place . Or purchase a jack pump and move yourself . Concrete no problem . Use on a craned hose can reach 50 metres or more . Pumped in no issue . Have you got a site plan ? Easier to see your specific issues . Necessity is the mother of invention... ? -

I know your going to have everything in because I am . I do recommend a nas for storage and nvr . Also raspberry pi with max2play for audio everywhere . Very cheap and very reliable. So what’s the actual hub ? I.e central to controlling all the HA ? . Access via phone but what about wall mounted tablets ? . Just wondering..... -

Also I did have a temporary set of wooden steps outside . They eventually rotted away .Fine for me going up and down but with large quantities of materials and ultimately large home appliances I need a new method . -

Because other works have to be done before a staircase can go in . Anyway I still want a lift for the tons of materials not up / down a staircase. -

It’s not crap . It’s work in progress . You can’t limit and stem creative juices . They must be allowed to flow unrestricted. -

Of course there is ! . Frameless glass balustrade Also eventually there will be a straight metal staircase to go from the pit up to the garden . ” I have a vision “ ” I don’t have the skill nor cash “ ? -

Yes. Think also big american fridge freezer. So it's not just about getting materials up/down otherwise I would just use a simple winch and gantry. I reckon - I can build something than I can dismantle and then ( as others have said and indeed I have already thought of ) with the freezer etc. breaks down and needs to be replaced I have a easy setup lift to utilise. Waining on @Onoff 's contact to get back to me. -

Ok not all verticals required . Most important ones are the corner one going to the other corner . Better strength as gantry supported at both ends - also reduces swing . -

Commission on it's way to you. I weigh a bit more than 9 stone ? Think I've got what you are saying. Would it not be stronger/better to have the 'scaff ladder' as the gantry with at least 1 other pole? Crap drawing to follow.... -

Don't want to hire anything. I can guarantee that this hoist/lift total cost will be less than that crane I had for all of 15 minutes.... -

Not sure now what benefit that would be?. H&S just called me and said it was "deemed acceptable" . I think @joe90 plan seems a go'er .... -

Another thought as I piece this together... What 'wire /chain' should I use for the platform support to hoist? - perhaps ratchet straps ?? https://www.scaffolding-direct.co.uk/ratchet-straps/ What type of fixings do I need to bolt the vertical scaf pole to the concrete walls? I'm sure there are other things I need to consider -

So this type of thing? https://www.scaffolding-direct.co.uk/alloy-steel-beams/ Provides better strength I assume? -

I'd love someone who knows what they are doing to build this! ? So! Lets assume I go with https://www.screwfix.com/p/hilka-pro-craft-250kg-electric-hoist/49927?tc=MT8&ds_kid=92700046638549236&ds_rl=1243318&ds_rl=1241687&ds_rl=1245250&ds_rl=1245250&gclid=CjwKCAjwx9_4BRAHEiwApAt0zmiYhGkryHs6GUYHjZoU9BYpvOnVSZZQWLSoE0dtcI2WdEHl1XMm9xoCLmwQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds and https://www.screwfix.com/p/hilka-pro-craft-hoist-support-arm-600kg/2240r as you suggest. 48mm scaf pole vertical. I'll buy a few shorter ones ( or perhaps just 1 long one so I can angle grind to suit? ) I then need to make that triangle to counter balance the weight. Not sure what I can / should use for that. Maybe a tank of some sort I can fill with water???? So @joe90 the winch hanging off 1 pole with the hoist support is strong enough on it's own for 100kg? -

I guess spreader bars should be scaf poles? @joe90 I think @Onoff was joking about the SE Was looking at this website for scaf bits. Which clamps etc. should I use??? https://www.scaffolding-direct.co.uk -

Think I will go with this Some interesting 'tips' in the ad < - > 5. Do not use micro electric hoist as a manned elevator. That's my fun spoiled < - > 9. To enter the construction site must wear a safety helmet. Erm, ok < - > 10. Before the operation, the workers are not allowed to drink. That's my fun spoiled again! < - > 11. The site is not allowed in the barefoot, wearing slippers, high-heeled shoes and trousers. And again!!!
