True . But you could argue the same for using your own generated electricity ( not just carbon saving ) I.e creates jobs / investment etc etc . My ‘ principle ‘ was to be less dependent on infrastructure; where possible .

I looked into this . Even have a non return valve in an access chamber installed as requested by the water company specifically for this . ROI was bad . But like others that’s not really the issue . So instead I spent the rain water recovery ear marked money on pv . Amount of water a toilet or washer needs is quite small . A rainwater butt outside fed off the roof will provide enough storage to water the garden . If I had more money I would of installed it as a matter of principle .

Agree that automation should “ just happen “ where possible . I do have my own web interface so I can play / spy - SWMBO doesn’t use it nor need to . Cat 5/6 everywhere . Then you can add sensors etc. you wish ( even if the cat cable is simply for poe ) . I use z wave ; but ultimately that will be replaced / become redundant . All my wiring does go back to a central “ the bridge “ command centre . If I sold the house it wouldn’t be too difficult to make it ‘normal ‘ again .

SWMBO is on it ! Plan is some form of mesh bolted to a concrete wall but spaced off it so chains ( for plant pots / troughs; not pleasure ) can be attached . Wall is white ; SWMBO wants mesh to be white .Rebar mesh good enough ? Best way to space off wall ? I’m concerned about the weight . 3 metres high of plant troughs water logged is quite heavy .
