As part of the application, we had to provide a meter reading (because we have bivalent system), so I would assume that it will be backdated. If it takes this long to just register though, I shudder to think how long it takes for them to make payments. will keep you posted.

We just wasted our money on this awful product last week: E Strip Self Adhesive Rubber It doesn’t stick to where it’s supposed (unless it’s too itself), unsticks stupidly easy (but not from itself). It’s a mess. Hate it. That got me thinking. I bet you guys here have purchased some duds - what’s the worst DIY/build product you purchased or came across this year?
-
Giving this thread a bump - so, I applied on June 18 - just called them and they say that my application is still under process. That seems to be taking an awfully long time. For those of you that have applied for RHI, how long did it take for your application to be processed?

What does routed mean?

That's brilliant - thanks.

I measured and tested a lot, and it's amazing that as long as the side panel (where the hinges mount) is the same width as the door it doesn't clip against the wall. That was my main fear, but I inspected our kitchen cabinets and forged ahead, and the door opens perfectly - absolutely no clipping against the wall. Major lesson learnt.

Yes we can - that's why we went with the large door, and there's loads of room to work in there if you had to. We've also completed all the major consumer unit work (ASHP, solar, etc,) so there shouldn't be any major work going forward - touch wood.
-
LOL - don't have the patience for that.
-
Thanks Joe - don't know what to tackle next. It'll probably something to do with wood, and hopefully I can pick up a well-priced used mitre saw.

I'm really, really pleased with the outcome of this project. Amazing how practice allows you to improve. I need suggestions for a new challenge. Don't have stable doors I've also posted a couple of before and after photos for those that are interested, and you can see the off cuts I've used.

I wish I had those kind of mad skills. That would be awesome.

Thanks Barney!

Our consumer unit is located in the hallway. The previous owners had never attempted to hide it, and it looked unsightly so we decided to build a cabinet to conceal it. This is my first ever cabinet, built from scratch. Very pleased with the outcome.

That's respectable. The house we moved into was gutted and completely redone by the previous owners. They cut so many corners, which you only find when you start looking at things closely, but the one thing that we have found astounding has been the amount of rubbish, packaging and filth that has been hidden behind "finished" things, which we find shocking given that they had a skip here to dispose of all such crap during there rebuild. We found discarded packaging under the bathtub (see attached image), general filth and rubble behind the kitchen skirting boards, and I'm not even going to address what we found up the chimney stack. I find that kind of stuff disreputable and lazy.

Yes, the timber was treated Cpd, but I guess you can never do too much to protect wood. I’m starting to learn this.
-
I did think of doing that and then decided against it. Now that the project is done, I kinda wish I’d done that. Won’t skip this step next time.

Don't think all the subscribers are from here - got some friends to follow me and picked up some followers off a renewable energy website. But I think Buildhub is by far the best "expert" site I've come across for DIY advice.

Yeah, I know. Didn't want to waste a lot of time cutting neat little pieces and no one's ever going to see them ?

Taken me a while to post this sorry. It's a short video based on the advice received here. Hopefully it's OK. It looks good from the outside. Feedback and comments are always welcome. https://youtu.be/FO5IhMNZZHw

Thanks Peter - if I wanted to fill the hole, would you recommend that I go with a lime/sand mortar?
-
We need to do some pointing work around our brickwork in a couple of areas where the mortar has crumbled out - please see photos. Is the pointing work as "simple" as mixing up the right mortar (I was thinking of going with a lime and sand mortar, not cement), getting on a ladder and filling in the gaps and then smoothing the mortar out?

Thanks Jeremy.
-
LOL - is it explained in the book?
-
What is the head please? Not sure I follow that.
