Yes, it’s pretty high. Do they sell home scaffolding towers? That could he helpful.

Thank you for the explanation. Never thought about heating in W per square meter. I think that’s a very good way for me to monitor our running costs.

Thank you all for your invaluable info and insights. I think we need to get up there and look for ourselves, close up and with it. And the moss. Can you please recommend a high quality roof ladder... it’s about 10m from ground to gutter... then we need to beyond that.

Looks like we're going to need a pro to come in and look at it - first few we've called said call us back at the end of January. Crazy. Wait till Jan and the water pouring in. What are soakers?
-
We don't have attic access under the chimney - so we would have to scale the roof. I agree, having taken a close up photo the work looks awful.

I've got to say I'm getting tired of our DIY dramas at the moment. After the storms yesterday, we had a leak on our ceiling and we think it has come the chimney - took some photos of the stack and it looks like the lead isn't covering the chimney properly. Any thoughts? PS - I know we have to deal with the moss too.

Cool air around double glazed windows

I don’t think I’ll be able to move entire windows... there’s just too many. After our bathroom is done, I’ll be turning my attention to some of these sills where the draft is more noticeable and seeing how we can draft proof them better. The work is never ending at the moment, and unnecessary as most of it stems from shoddy workmanship. -
So you’re running at 24-25C? Is that right? For our numbers, is that an acceptable figure? Every time I feel like I’m getting more comfortable with ASHPs, something comes along and it all unravels.

We’re heating just over 4,000 sqft - it’s all heated 24/7. Minimum temperature throughout the house is 19C. UFH from 8:00-21:0O is set to 21C. Bedrooms to 21C at nighttime (20:30-8:00), TV room to 21C in the evening. All other dormant rooms are set to 19C.

Yes, that’s what I meant.

Pump has used 51kW since midnight - 18 hours. 2.8/hour.

Looks like your diagnosis was spot on. Thank you. -

That is the only window with trim at the bottom, and it’s the draftiest. Thanks for pointing that out... I’ll deal with that in the days ahead. -

Frosting has not been an issue today. We are averaging 2.5kW/hour on our ashp. Average outdoor temperature has been 0-3C. Would that be considered as being high? It looks like that to me.

So this would require removing the windows? If so, that’s not a realistic option for us. Guess we’re stuck with shoddy workmanship for the foreseeable future. -
Internal. 3C outside. Three days ago our RH was 98%.

Bummer. Are there any tricks to combat this? -
All our windows are double glazed and we wood fillered all tiny cracks. The house is warm (it’s freezing outside) and we can feel some cool air around the sill (not a draft). Is this normal?
-
So if RH is low, does this help the ashp’s efficiency? Checked our panel - RH at 27% and the boiler hasn’t kicked in once to defrost. Didn’t realize there was a correlation between RH, ambient temperature and ashp CoP.
-
Since the snow and drop in temperature our ashp has been hard at work. Is this the time, as we consume more electricity to heat the house, that I can expect to see the COP drop?
-
We’ve been running since March. 6.16kW is our full array - max we can produce. 3.87 is what we were producing when I took the screen grab. 6.3 is what we were consuming power wise - that would have been ASHP and dryer running... maybe even dishwasher. So we were offsetting half our power requirement with solar.
-
I think you’re right Ed. My iPad app says 12k (as per the screen grab). iPhone app says 1.2k. I’ll let SolarEdge know about this.
-
Yikes! You impress me with your meticulous calculations. I didn’t do anything to work it out. Just used SolarEdge’s app that spits the info out. Assumed it would be correct.

We hit our 5 MWh milestone on our solar PV system a short while ago. Almost 13 tonnes of CO2 saved from going into the atmosphere.
