  2. Well for those that remember our Jeremy, his house generated more than he used, even paid for his council tax (not sure what rate his fit was however) but shows what can be done. It’s easy to be negative about innovation and I guess that time will tell.

I think you must ask yourself would you be happy to live in a single story build as required by the planers? as I posted earlier my LPA wanted a 1.5 story build which I would have accepted rather than throw the towel in. The ground floor was exactly the same so whilst the appeal was progressing we applied for 1.5 story build, passed and started the build. We won the appeal before we got to first floor level. If we lost we would have built the top floor as per that the planners passed. i still think you have a good chance of winning your appeal.

  12. Maybe but easy to adjust height, saves digging, mixing concrete, buying blocks. Plenty on EBay.( If I build a garden room I am going to use them).
  13. I would favour ground screws, simple, effective, quick.
  14. Not a cavity wall but I ran UFH pipes through internal walls by using 22mm overflow pipe in the wall, perhaps if you did this and sealed the pipe to the DPM either end with silicone or airtightness tape you would be ok.

Now your just being silly 🙄 So you are well qualified, how are the rest of us supposed to manage? when living in Shropshire I was going to submit my own plans to extend a cottage and a neighbour who was in the trade offered to do it for me, when I viewed his drawings I spotted two mistakes and when I told him he asked me where the third one was!!,! He explained the local planners loved to make you change things so the “art” was to create obvious errors where the outcome was what you wanted in the first place. He was right and I got what I wanted 🙄

  17. That’s more what I would have guessed (not 30% as stated elsewhere on the tinternet!!!). Anyway, more houses built = more mortgages, more council tax, more builders in employment, more money movement etc etc so what’s not to like 🤷‍♂️
  18. I cannot recall any regulation on stop tap height, most stop taps in existing houses are under the sink just above floor height.   19. Living in a Static has advantages, I did but on my own mostly, it also depends on whether any family can “cope” with it (not all can).
  20. Sounds like a plant room so I would board the wall out so fixings can go anywhere, stop tap best near the floor i guess then plumber has more flexibility.
  21. Oh I am under no illusion how lucky I am, I told my kids the other day they are having a harder time than i did at their age. So 70% with mortgages, still a lot.
  22. Any evidence on what percentage of houses are bought for cash? I would suggest that if that was the case people were moving up, so the house they sold, maybe to a first time buyer would need a mortgage 🤷‍♂️
  23. They are required to catch any damp in the cavity and push it to weep vents in the outer brick/blockwork, it usualy slopes towards the outside , also required above windows and doors .
  24. Who says house prices coming down will lead to a recession?, yes it might but not necessarily. Recession is two consecutive quarters of negative GDP. Building more houses = more mortgages for the banks.
