  1. Checked them yesterday - actually tried to order. Their free delivery is £420 (!??) ☹️ Bulky items. Back to the search.
  2. Thank you. I have compared a few items vs Wickes, quite a difference. About three times cheaper! I am used to thinking you pay 20 or 50% extra for retail purchases, but didn't expect 150%+.
  3. Not necessarily 7x2, it was just an example. And of course doesn't have to be 6m, will see what AT proposes for the roof, maybe 4.8m will do. Buying a third of the amount at twice the price would annoy me. 🙂 Of course hiab delivery is another option. Edited to add : their individual board prices are pretty good too.
  4. I was thinking about moffett delivery but can't get any estimates online. I had shingles delivered like this and it was very reasonably priced. Actually, if the place you buy from delivers to Surrey I would certainly look into it as this is still way cheaper than most.
  5. Not to collect from the docks, which this specific company claims is the place of origin, no. I guess if I found somebody in London who had space and get the package delivered to them first, then pick up, this would be an option. Not completely impossible, but unlikely.
  6. Hi, I was looking for structural timber and found a company with prices well below everybody else (pretty certain they have been around for quite a few years). The catch is you can't collect and the delivery is only within a very limited area in London. So 1. Has anyone seen comparable prices? If not - are these "too good to be true"? 2. Separately, there are a few sellers whose price is at least not 50% more (which is the case for the most others I could find), but they don't deliver to our area either. Is hiring one's own haulage service for say a 50 mile delivery a realistic option? Taking into account I'd have to trust the driver I don't know to deliver something worth way more than his fee from the place I have never been to? How does the seller know that they should load my hired truck? Not advertising this particular seller, but this looks quite good. 47mm x 225mm Structural Graded C24 Treated Carcassing Timber 6000mm (9'' x 2'') Pack of 55 £1,394.56 Inc VAT £25.36 Per Length https://www.builderdepot.co.uk/timber-sheets/carcassing-timber/treated-timber?product_list_order=price_desc
  7. The price in dollars came down quite a lot, but the exchange rate must be pushing the price in pounds. Still a good news.
  8. Your peak usage is a bit surprising to me. We use roughly the same amount over a year but both peak and off-peak, with gas CH and HW. There are four of us and my wife and I still WFH at least three days a week, I have my desktop on for 12-14 hours a day with 2*27'' monitors. Your house is of course larger, may be it's the lighting required for large spaces, not sure. We mostly cook in the electric oven and run the washing machine, drier and the dishwasher. A server farm? 🙂
  9. Not sure whether you have fitted your trusses yet, but I have just watched this video by Robin Covett. Looks doable with enough manpower - the lifting part is close to the end.
  10. Aldi again Jack hammer for £84 delivered? Although not sure whether it's powerful enough - the reviews say it is. https://www.aldi.co.uk/scheppach-jack-hammer/p/811152590094700
  11. Sorry, I have to ask Is it 3400 slates for workshop only? Or will it (hopefully) cover the main house?
  12. Oh damn. I know how it works but didn't realise who introduced it - maybe because Conservatives had a chance to fix it but didn't, at least after 2015. I'd rather Kwarteng changed this than removed the 45% - but then I 'd say so, wouldn't I.
  13. I thought it was talented Mr Osborne who we have to thank for this great invention?
  14. Any recommendations? 🙂 Seriously, looking for an AT specialising in ICF has been a disappointing experience. This contact was passed by the supplier. I have realised for example that it is not clear to me at all whether a warm roof can work with ICF - couldn't find a relevant detail. With TF standard MBC detail with cellulose in walls connecting with cellulose in the roof looks natural although is probably not a warm roof construction.
  15. @ETC Thank you Based on your reply, does it mean that all 3 would normally be included in the standard package rather than be "add-ons"?
  16. Hi, I am about to commission an architectural technician to produce a set of BC drawings for our outbuilding. The insulated raft has been designed already by SE, the building is just a rectangle and ICF is planned for the walls. The only areas that require attention are waterproofing as we are building into a slope and the roof where we need to work from the allowed ridge height down to establish the possible roof and wall height. What I want to understand is : 1. is it in scope for AT to establish at least approximately the potential roof structure, i.e. the whether it is going to be 8 by 2 or whether the steel will be required etc. 2. Is showing the detail for connecting roof insulation with ICF insulation in scope? 3. Waterproofing (no mortgage required)? The reason I am asking is I have the feeling AT has some standard details and items 2-3 are an extra on the standard package (according to him) which is a bit odd to me. While the whole cost is still reasonable I don't want to pay for something that is not adopted for our specific case and just mindlessly copied from somewhere. Any opinions? Thanks in advance. Edit: I think I put it in the wrong forum, probably better moved to Building Control?
  17. I am sure you know how large European reserves of gas are... and also know that unlike the US Europe decided not to use these. So yes, idiotic policies concentrating on renewables rather than competition are to blame - obviously, alongside the decision to rely on a single producer to such a degree.
  18. This is incorrect. It's not the job of the Chancellor, inflation is a clear responsibility of the Bank of England.
  19. Sorry, Dave, have to disagree here. Remember when the sudden surge in natural gas prices occurred? Last year, well before the war. The same and worse for say building materials. And now it is partially self-sustaining as the rise in energy prices makes pretty much everything more expensive. Yes, we do hope that the interest rate rise plus "will do whatever it takes" stance of Central Banks can bring the inflation down, preventing the spiral - if moronic green policies are suspended. Look at what idiots across the world do: ignoring the lesson Sri-Lanka taught (and anyone who cared knew about it last year) they try to limit usage of fertilisers and take land out of agricultural use. Really hard not to suspect a conspiracy. Trudeau doesn't come up with ideas like this himself. https://www.msn.com/en-ca/news/other/trudeau-pushes-ahead-on-fertilizer-reduction-as-provinces-and-farmers-cry-foul/ar-AAZSrBZ https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-62335287
  20. In case anyone needs a compactor - this one is discounted to £250. Pretty good for the money but I have one already 🙂 https://www.aldi.co.uk/scheppach-6-5hp-petrol-compactor/p/807467500341600
  21. Where does all this stuff go when you blow it with the air? I know that vaccum cleaner is not nearly powerful enough to suck much out of the gaps, but if you blow at it doesn't it just go deeper? Sorry, confused here - and need to do the same to ours.
  22. Don't know whether it's a good deal, I just like that it's Costco who are generally very good and I'd expect them to deal with similarly reliable suppliers https://www.costco.co.uk/Home-Improvement/Solar-Panels/c/cos_20.3 Engenera 6kW Solar PV System (16 Panels) with 5.2kW Battery Storage - Fully Installed and a few smaller setups
  23. Nothing is temporary when I am involved. @Onoffhas finished his bathroom before I even started! Edited to add : not sure whether you saw that I mentioned welding gauntlets that you recommended. Thanks again.
