  1. Thanks The builder has done it before but we have also reached out to a firm that apparently can supply and fit (automation) but they haven't come back yet. No keypad or intercom purely because any wifi communication is non existent (the tests with various boosters and extenders failed miserably), our broadband is so weak, we have no mobile signal and even wireless technology is a a bit hit and miss although we have found placing numerous tek wireless doorbells around the house and one in the garage near the gate seems to just about work and anyone who presses the doorbell on the gate posts results in it ringing with slight delays in the house and all at different points! The foil insulation in the house and the fact it's a large bungalow means we struggle to get consistent signal on wireless too as depending on which room we are in means there are so many walls for signals to pass through!
  2. Thanks, silly question but do the gates automatically close? I thought you'd have to press the fob to open them and again to close them rather than the gates just determining when they should close? So it sounds like we need one in the centre then. Are the two gate stop posts necessary then? We have just had outdoor lights fitted on the brick gate posts and nearby garage so lighting isn't an issue to be honest.
  3. Me again . . . Almost 8 weeks and our gates are coming on Saturday after I had to raise a credit card dispute with Charles and Ivy for not providing the goods with Charles and Ivy to get our gates. After two weeks of non communication when I sent screen shots of the dispute and surprisingly less than an hour later I got a phone call to arrange delivery! I contacted this company @joe90 mentioned for a quote for automation and they haven't come back yet. Thr other option is to buy a kit online and get the builder to quote for fitting. I'm confused as to what we need. This company recommended the kit below but then other things (in blue) like photocells, door loops and safety edges and I'm not sure whether we need them or not! https://www.theelectricgateshop.co.uk/Roger-Technology-BE20-210-24v-BRUSHLESS-Electric-Gate-Kit-Double Another company recommended the 4ti which comes with blinker lights and photocells and the blurb also says we need gate stops too although we are on slight a slope into the drive so I'm not sure how effective they will be (not sure the stops are high enough). Do we need gate stops? I'm completely confused if we need all the extra stuff and if we need everything in these kits. Can anyone advise? Our total gate opening is 3900 and doors will open inwards. We have brick posts and the electric is all there ready for the gates. We are not having any intercom, video etc due to shocking Internet even on ethernet, wifi etc
  4. We did have Luxaflex up/down blind in our office. It's not that fabric though....
  5. Success, tv and poweline work! I can't be blamed for this mistake as I wasn't let near it after I broke the ethernet socket module by shoving the cable in upside down with force 🫢 My argument is that we wouldn't need a splitter or poweline/extender if it wasn't for the other half being insistent on a camera doorbell on the gate so all of this could have been avoided if we just had a normal doorbell.....
  6. Doh, we just realised we needed power 🤦‍♀️ Need to find a plug now as they only supplied the USB cable....
  7. We need two ethernet sockets and got this splitter from Amazon. We can't get it to work. The TV will work directly connected to the ethernet Socket and separately the powerline connects to the Ethernet but when we try and use the splitter we can't get either to connect via ethernet. I've even bought another thinking it was faulty and same issue. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong please? Clearly the main socket works fine but something isn't working when we use the splitter for two ethernet sockets.
  8. Yay..... the poweline adapter has worked. One in the lounge connected to ethernet and one in the dressing room which is the furthest away room and the room closest to the gate. Tested it on a wifi WhatsApp call and it worked! Going to order a reolink doorbell on Amazon and test that over Easter...
  9. No not without running it down the rendered walls and then across a large driveway. If the powerlines don't work then the video doorbell is a no!
  10. I've been up the loft on a mission to see where the cables are. If we can't get anything to work with that kit then we may have to get an electrician to come and sort in the loft as that's beyond my skills!
  11. Unfortunately to the garage or elsewhere yes (the garage is some 30 metres away). We do have 3 ethernet sockets elsewhere in the house (lounge and bedroom) but the extenders had little impact once outside. I've ordered this one and my plan is to put one wired into the ethernet in the lounge and then the WiFi one either in the bedroom which is the room closest to the gate or perhaps the garage (although I'm not sure if the garage will work, it is double bricked with insulation albeit not foil) If this doesn't work I'm all out of options and already have 4 different types from Amazon to return! SWMBO is convinced someone will hit our new and expensive gates or wall when in all liklihood the person most likely to do that is me and I'd rather not have evidence of it! We had unusually large farm type gates/opening of almost 20ft and once the new ones are in it will be 13ft and at the moment I'm avoiding leaving the house as I can't reverse between the brick posts (yes I am crap driver).... Once all the sh!t gets moved there will be space to turn around so I won't need to reverse and the gates and brick posts will be a lot safer!
  12. Thanks both, if we can sort out the wifi I'll order. Had to return our WiFi extender as it just isn't strong enough after all that, initially looked promising but barely good enough to browse Amazon let alone video calling, damn that foil insulation! Got a Powerline adapter ordered and I'm hoping this will be more successful.....
  13. @Pocster any update re Reolink? We have finally got a POE booster in our living room which means we can get wifi outside now and SWMBO wants a video doorbell cam on our brick posts as we should have our electric gates soon....
  14. I had to hound them and hound them to confirm my second warranty card had been received and registered..... commenting on their Facebook page may also work.
  15. Back on this.... we are trying to break up the porcelain as we have such a lot of one colour. I'm thinking of something along the lines of this to create a path between the patio and pergola area but using wood effect porcelain and rather than just on grass use some kind of edging (metal perhaps so the paving can be staggered) and then fill with some kind of aggregate with some planting in between aggregate to soften .... presume the porcelain would still need to be laid on mortar and primed etc... Anyone done anything similar. I am really struggling. Pic for general idea but these are just laid into grass
  16. Some success, Internorm directly have responded (I have their Techinal Managers details after he came and sorted some issues with a fingerprint sensor on our front door) and they say it can likely be done, that said they are just waiting for JK to provide the specific order details of the original item to double and then we can get a quote from Internorm (will involve a visit from their Service Department).
  17. Yep I have reached a dead end completely. Seems like there is no solution.
  18. I did look at this as an option but couldn't find anything suitable.
  19. John Knight glass rung me today and said they couldn't do anything, infact they said they would have to take the whole thing out and replace it! I'm going to try Internorm directly.
  20. It was a couple of years ago and they didn't offer any external lock on this configuration. I'll contact John Knight Glass again and see if they can retrofit anything. Was hoping for an alternative but I've been scouring the net with little success.
  21. Righty, here's a conundrum. We have a bedroom/ensuite in our house which we are thinking of doing as an Airbnb. The bedroom door has a key lock on it which means access to the rest of the house can be prevented. It also has a window/door onto the patio. In essence this can be a separate entrance so is ideal for guests. The issue we have is that when we had it fitted (Internorm) they didn't do anything that could be locked. From inside the bedroom the right side as you look at the photo can be operated like a tilt and turn window so you can either use it as a window or door and the left side has a catch to open that side and both open inwards. From outside there is a little catch to open and close the door so if you just left the bedroom you can shut the door and then go back in but there is no way of locking it. Obviously if we had guests they would want to secure the room (even though we would likely only do Airbnb when we were around). Is there any way of retrofitting something, ideally without drilling into the frame?
  22. We use one of those electric fence sprayer things and it works a treat. We have 90 metres of fencing and I can do it all within a couple of hours.
  23. Ours is 3.6m in width and is plenty. Pic attached for ref. The chairs go around the table fine and there is plenty of room (only moved them as we have had some very bad storms and they were blowing everywhere). Our pergola area is about 4.3m in width although we wanted it a little smallee it was to cover a large old brick septic tank.
  24. This is as good as it gets
  25. No idea! I'm thinking thinning down the first coat with some white spirit won't do any harm? Tried ringing regal paints but they not answering
