  1. The RHI is more. This is the second quote now, the first one was a little more, but different pump.
  2. Yes the quote is around £21k but then we need underfloor heating, a civil engineer to dig the inlet for the blades if CRT approve.
  3. OK, so I've been getting quotes for a water souce heat pump with the Nuenta energy blades mentioned in a previous thread based on our plans and curremt EPC, though ongoing discussions are taking place with CRT still. One thing I'm confused about in the huge amount of emails is this statement below: Total estimated annual heating & hot water consumption: 21,989kWh Eligible Usage (energy taken from sustainable sources): 21,989kWh x (1 - 1/4.73) = 17,340kWh Total annual RHI payments = 17,340kWh x 20.46p/kWh = £3,548 a year for 7 years Ignoring the RHI payments our estimated heating and hot water consumption is over 20,000 units..... So generally comparing electricity prices if I was getting an idea of how much we'd be paying on 21000 units a year works out around £3k based on currently electric prices. Is this right? I mean it's a two bed bungalow at the moment 100m2 and will be just over double and we only use £20 a month electric (electric showers, sometimes immersion but heating is oil).... It seems a huge jump
  4. @evelar glad it's not just me! We are next to the canal, lovely sunny days it's great but it can get very damp, misty etc in autumn/winter and having read a few posts I'd be worried about aluclad timber, longevity and maintenance. I think our options are going to be aluclad pvc or aluminium for the windows and aluminium for the doors (not aluclad pvc as we had pvc bifolds in our last property and didn't rate them). Your post about the problems you've had with aluminium worry me slightly, though I hope the technology has advanced now! Its so confusing!!
  5. If you want to message me directly then please do.
  6. I love the idea of a frameless balcony. Would you mind sharing details please. Much appreciated.
  7. Love your balcony. We are having one too, but it is very large and I'd be scared to use it if it was glass, I don't even like bridges that have gaps in the bottom I can see through when walking over! Are you having anything else on the glass on the balcony, e.g rail etc ie just glass? Would be great to see a picture as you progress. Thanks!
  8. Random question but the 'poles' what are they made of? We currently have naff brick pillars and I hate them but this part will be retained and I'm looking for ways of trying to make it look nicer....
  9. I saw a kitchen I liked that colour. It's lovely.
  10. Thank you everyone and especially for the pictures great to see some amazing designs. We have a unique house name based on the bridges our house is next to and we designed a very rough sketch based on the house name which will be etched into the wooden doors in a bridge style design, hard to explain. It will be a double door, no glazing and we have approached a couple of local carpenters and have a rough estimate of around £1750 for the double door (will meet building regs) and we will supply handle and locks. It will at least reflect the area and will be a bit unique. Thats one worry, now just to decide on windows.
  11. I'll do some more research into aluclad. What about just aluminium? Aside from insulating any other pros and cons?
  12. Yes same here. I'm worried aluclad timber won't be suitable for us in terms of maintenance and the closeness to the water. What I'm unclear on is how aluclad pvc, or even aluclad timber for example compares to aluminium. What are the particular benefits of aluclad over aluminium?
  13. Oh you did, I've requested samples from them online.
  14. Lol, can't complain for £10. Love the big picture syle window on the right, we will have very similar. What is the wood style cladding on the bottom?
  15. I know! The 'basic' ranges of some we saw, at for example Spitfire were £3500.
  16. Thanks, I've sent off for samples.
  17. Well after much research, we have considered lots of options, even those like Urban Front, Spitfire etc but just couldn't find anything that we liked, nor that was in the price range. Spitfire (complete with Swarovski crystals) Urban Front etc all around a minimum £4k plus for something that just wasn't us. In the end we liked the idea of a timber double door, like below rather than a front door and a glazed panel either side like we have now, but not the horizontal lines like below or the long handles. We haven't decided if we want any glazing in the doors but we have sourced a couple of local carpenters who will be able to make us something bespokeand we can then pick hardware etc and create our own ...
  18. That looks great, did you stain or treat the wood?
  19. I think aluclad pvc will be better for us rather than aluclad timber due to moisture but this seems to lower the amount of companies that actually do Aluclad PVC, bad sign perhaps...
  20. Thanks, some great advice. We will go to the Internorm Rohas showroom and go from there, but also look at the other companies recommended. If anyone has any recommendations for installers in the North West/Shropshire area that would be great.
  21. We want to start looking at windows and I've seen two companies pop up a bit, Internorm and Rationel. We have also read arguments on alu clad timer and alu clad pvc so are going to look into this, particularly with us being next to the canal, moisture and maintenance we are thinking the pvc may be better but need to check internally the look. There is an Internorm Rohaus showroom in Stafford so that can at least be a starting point. Is there any other considerations or companies we should look into that are recommended? We have two windows around 8ft x 6ft but 6 others far smaller. The other biggie is we have 10 roof lights as they are our upstairs windows so that's a separate issue I guess, though I noticed there is another forum page for that!
  22. We are looking at ideas for wood cladding. We are looking to have Tata metal cladding and then wooden cladding underneath the balcony as per the pic (we will also have skylights in the balcony which aren't shown on our plans), and also wood cladding on the underneath of our porch which will be partly flat roof. We are next to the canal and we want a wood that will be hard wearing given the damp conditions in winter close to the canal and Accoya has cropped up twice. Has anyone had any experience of using it, good, bad, alternatives? It won't be a particularly large area and won't have direct exposure as will be undercover but still want something fairly maintenance free.
  23. Or I clearly don't know my North... Strange as we have the sun in the day where the extension and balcony will be. I'm rubbish!
  24. I can't see the drafts can you direct me to it please?
