  1. The suite is about 25 years old except for the bath that the last owners installed to sell the house. Never ever use a bath so that's been a waste of space for the last 4 years but the monster spiders think its great, the shower tomb is a death trap ? and I smash my elbows on it when showering as its so small. It used to have massage jets but last time I tried to operate them the garden ended up getting more water than me.? The lighting gives off more heat than my oven......blah blah blah thus the need for a new bathroom?
  2. Thanks for the replies guys, I too have had issues with all sorts of products from B&Q , Wickes, Travis Perkins and Screwfix when fitting the kitchen and this time I purchased all the gear from different suppliers on a hope that it will be of better quality and install a bit better. Shower Tray: RAK Feelings 1600x 900mm Geberit Slimline Waste Grohe Shower Grohe Taps Bristan Waste Phoenix Basin and WC'S Luceco lighting General plumbing JG speedfit My only down fall will be my lack of experience of fitting a bathroom as never even thought about it before and was a last minute decision, Its the only bathroom in the house so once the WC and shower comes out the pressure is on?. Porta potty from Amazon for £23 should do the trick?
  3. Hi all I have decided to fit my own bathroom due to my bathroom fitter letting me down on dates and just wanted to check in on build hub to make sure I’m going about things in the right manner. In the past I have completed quite a few DIY jobs around the house but nothing as complex as the bathroom so am treading cautiously. I am currently ripping out the old bathroom and have just booked a plasterer to come in in about 10 days time so hopefully I should have finished all the plumbing and laid the new floor by then. I am placing noggins at 250mm intervals in between the joists to give good support for the 18 mm plywood floor I will be lying down and hopefully this will support the tile floor and the stone resin tray properly. I have purchased some KA bond SBR to seal all sides of the plywood which will then be glued and screwed to the joists, I will also leave a couple of millimeters gap in between any joins in the plywood. After the floor, pipework and plastering is complete I plan on fitting a stone resin shower tray, The instructions for the shower tray inform me to use a acetic silicone to lay the stone resin tray onto and also makes a point of not to lay the stone resin tray on a concrete/cement base. I have not purchased any acetic silicone and so was looking for recommendations on what brand to buy? I have also just purchased an Aquaseal wet room system kit so hopefully that will do a good job with the tanking, The walls of the shower area is mostly solid block work but has a small plasterboard cavity at one end where the shower pipework will run. I have also been studying the tanking thread here on buildhub and plan on sealing around the edges of the stone resin tray with silkaflex as demonstrated brilliantly by Nickfromwales. This is as far as I have got with my planning at present but any advice from you guys will be much appreciated. Pics of what is being pulled out: Making a start:
  4. Just added those to my Screwfix order?
  5. As soon as I unpacked I assumed that they had to be the caps for the cistern bolts but the thread for the bolts is nearly 10mm and the hole for the supposed cap cover is only 7.5mm so they would not fit. Thanks for the heads up on the *hity plastic bolts ?
  6. Yes I though the same thing but they are 38mm in diameter with a depth of 30mm, the parts came packaged with the cistern and in a separate box was the pan with its own parts supplied inc the items to attach to the floor. Thanks anyway
  7. Hi guys I have purchased Phoenix Qube QU040 close coupled toilet and as per normal these day there are no instructions on what parts are what. The manufacturers website only has dimensions in PDF with no info on install and parts whats so ever ? Can anyone tell me what the parts are for that I have circled in the photo? I have Googled till my eyes bleed and have found nothing. Thanks
  8. Believe it or not but they add a charge of £25 shipping?, I contacted them to ask why the shipping was so much and they said the manufacturer enforces it...pah
  9. I have purchased a RAK Feelings stone resin shower tray and they recommend a RAK feeling Slimline 90mm Shower waste which is £50. I have full access to the shower tray trap from the utility room below so is this expensive trap really necessary? Happy Friday people ?
  10. Sorry Juj I missed your comment, yes the Hardie backer board is something I'm going to consider ?
  11. OK will do Peter
  12. The "Just don't" ? OK Peter I'll make sure the planer stays out of the bathroom and again thanks for the top idea ? . I'll be using a stone resin tray for the shower will this be OK to lay directly onto the joists with adhesive of course making sure its level?
  13. Oh yes that's a good idea, I was also thinking about taking 5-7mm of the top of the joists with a planer as its a small bathroom and would not be a bad job. Your idea would really drop it back down and maybe the option I will go for ? Thanks PeterW
  14. Hi all, I am attempting to refit my own bathroom after the bathroom fitter let me down ?, at present I have a rotten and very thin chipboard floor fitted to the floor joists with a thin laminate layer and want to tear it up and replace with a decent floor. I wanted to put down a new 22mm chipboard/ply and then a 10mm tile on top but this makes the floor level much higher than the original and the transition into the bathroom from the hall will surely be a trip hazard? does anyone have any advice on what is usually done to adapt to a thicker floor? the hallway has carpet. Thanks guys?
  15. I have had loads of fun and games laying a floating engineered wood floor and have come to lay the last few boards, the boards will be fitted over central heating pipes which sit encased in concrete channels. My question is what temporary glue could I use for the wood flooring so that I could get to the pipes underneath in the future if I had a leaky pipe? I was thinking about dabs of hot glue in the tongue and groove or I had another recommendation of using latex glue ( Copydex Latex Adhesive). I'd rather use hot glue because I already have some , Cheers for any info dudes?
  16. Now that's forward planning and a brilliant suggestion, again thanks so much.....made my day ?
  17. I'm going to be laying a floating engineered wood floor but I'm puzzled about the fitting at the back door and PVC double doors as in pics below, What do you use to build up to/tidy the gap? Googled for a while but found no useful info or pics, maybe I'm not using correct search terms. Any help mucho appreciated?
  18. I have no idea if they need their own circuit or not but am going to look into them as whilst I have ceiling down and what not it might be worth running cables if need be.
  19. I feel exactly the same about the tank in the loft, every time I go up there to drag Christmas decorations down it sits there wrapped in its black cape all creepy and old and I don't even want to look at whats floating in it? ?
  20. Hey Richi thanks for the reply, thats a smart set up and must admit I'm tempted as our hot water takes an age to supply the taps down stairs. So there is no building regs or anything weird about going directly from mains when you already have a water tank in the loft? Cheers
  21. Hi everybody and hope you didn't get to much disruption from yesterdays weather. So at present I am drawing out on paper my plans for my downstairs toilet and utility room and was questioning if I can take the cold feed from the mains to supply the toilet, 2 x sinks. The reason I ask is because at present everything else in the house apart from the kitchen sink and washing machine is supplied by the tank in the loft. The mains supply comes into the property at the location of the new utility room so is quite handy. Thanks people ?
  22. Hmm mine was closed in but I have broken through 50% of it so I can use the roof as extra storage ?
  23. Thank you so much for taking the time to explain, I really do need to start learning this stuff as I have a lot more electrical work to do in the future. I have just borrowed a book from a friend called The Part P Doctor and apparently it explains a lot about testing in laymen terms which is fantastic for someone like me with severe ADHD and minor Aspergers. ?
  24. Oh blimey I never thought of that, the BC's going to spot that one I bet. Problem is I have no other choice on the route but to go into the garage ?
