  1. Absolutely the best idea. Except I cannot afford it. I should have said the bottom of the pile, is all I can afford sorry if I've wasted anyone's time. I didn't actually know a £150 2 camera swann system was bottom of the pile tbh. But this is all i can afford ( work pollaxed by brexit & covid ). Its really the basics, irrespective of the quality at this juncture, Im trying to figure out. If i can use an ipad for eg (swann lovely phillipino girl on phone said yes.. but I don't see iOS mentioned as compatible ). How the recorder box works: does it record everything/ is that basically the principle with these? So you can dip in to 11.30 am yesterday for a 10 minute view? It might not be that my q's are easily answered on here, if its purely one ' recording ' set up is completely different from another. Thx zh
  2. Thanks, I will email him.. the videos I cannot access/ ipad or line trouble I don't know. Hi epsilonG.. thanks for this, but its pretty advanced for me to understand! Im at a stage so basic, & can only afford a very lowly system, that I am just trying to understand how I might view a camera image for now. Ive just got more info, that being i can connect to the recorder box, with my ipad. I think. Wirelessly too, via the www. Great if so. I think its a case of having the recorder box, hardwired to cameras I understand this, connected to my bt internet hub, in order to then use the ipad as my monitor. Im just getting head around this idea you see/ need to pause! Thanks, zh
  3. Hi chaps, Im finally resigned to consider cctv on my old miners cottage due to prolonged sneaky ( & disgusting ) n'bour behaviour. One suggestion, himself having similar problems, has been a Swann cctv system. Great starting point for me, as I'm a fish out of water in this whole new area of hardware. Would anyone have a basic 2 camera system, they could explain some fundamentals to me? I have read all I can, waiting for Swann to call (...) but Im still a step behind understanding the very basics. Thanks, zoot
  4. Hi John. Thanks alot for this, sorry only just spotted the reply. Been so blustery not ideal to keep gates firmly set to do this final job. So maybe put a bit of tape over the btm of the 2" long tube, insert into a 5" x 5" x 2" (D) hole filled with concrete ? I can nab a big handful of hardcore to mix with my cement & sand.. ithink this makes concrete. Maybe take out the big stones. Then press plate on, smooth of edges off downwards whilst setting ? Im sure simplest job for you, but even this is not so for me! Thanks zoot.
  5. Hi Onoff. Just back & to do last bits/ finish this gate pin hole thing. The diameter of pin is 5/8" = 16mm. Im not sure exactly what the idea is here: do I dig a hole, fill with concrete level with ground surface, then put a bit of tape or something over the tube end ( so concrete wont go up it ) then push this into concrete, put pin down into it to seat its position, overnight-? Then the plate.. erm goes ontop after its set? I cant see what this is for tbh. thanks zoot.
  6. Ah didnt measure that ( im away/ stress break/ more n'bour nastiness ) but i did measure my metal 2" tube.. 17mm inside dia, 21 mm outside. Grateful, zoot
  7. Very kind Peter.. will do pm.
  8. Gonna do this then.. good idea, thanks.
  9. Ive got pretty good at getting significant wads of fluff out my bellybutton John now Ive just turned 5 0 ( shock horror ) so I should be quite adept at this. Tbh its finding an ideal bit of placcy tube.. not quite so easy for me, but I do get your point/ the idea. Thanks, zoot
  10. Hi Peter.. must say Im pretty chuffed. The brown posts look like hardwood maybe, but will fade soon/ gotta keep painting to keep up the charade.. Just put a pic of the plate & tube/ last bits.
  11. Hi Onoff. Yes here.. i get the idea of the mini plinth level with ground. I need to find/ follow a clip tho, as its not registering fully with me.
  12. Hi GW thanks for that. We thankfully have no theft 'proper' here, & my one creep couple, altho pinched something from my car in the drive ( whilst i was in , only a matter of yds away/ my gaze averted from drive area working on my extention build work) I know wouldn't have nerve to pinch my small gate, esp with 2 police visits on my behalf ( tho the harrasment continues without change. 4.5 yrs of it). Kind of you to suggest it. Zh
  13. Cheers Onoff. I think my most 'pro' level of work yet tbh.. Im getting a bit better. Could you say what to do with the centre ground pin recess concrete bit? I have a 2" tube & a plate left in packet.. but Im scratching my hesd looking at them. I realise tube goes upright set in ground only. thanks zoot
  14. Hi Peter.. yes pin! Ive got just about enough/ 2" to go in ground. It has a metal 2" tube ( & small mystery plate w' hole in middle in packet).. so I assume this is set in the concrete thingy area Ive got to do as last job. Anyway, all that time measuring until my brain hurt seems to have paid off:
  15. Well I sort of did this.. but i just still cant get this put water on powder thing, i mean without mixing it. So i mixed it, but thank god it didnt FOff once some powder in. Great. Done. Weird stuff (when you have your bics, i have a mild panic attack. E x p e r i e n c e). Thanks. Last thing to scratch my head over, is the large gap I have under my join of gates. Meaning my rod stopper whatnot, going into the ground, on the bigger 8' gate only ( i think is all i need? )seems like its gonna struggle to reach more than an inch into ground. And does it go into a concrete small whatnot...? IE do i need to dig out a bit, concrete it, put my finger in to make a hole & lie outside all night with the owls?
  16. I must do today. Can anyone else think how this postcrete is even possible now? @Onoff or maybe @PeterWmaybe you could lend an idea? Thanks zoot
  17. Hi John. Problem. Progressing more today 2nd hole dug, post in all ready, stones around base, braced etc.. So I pour buckets of water in... & water dissapears, like theres a big plug hole. 3 full buckets.. just disappearing. Shoot. What do I do?
  18. No I meant i had every single thing wrong! Even the bagel, as it has to be a bap. Is it a bap? Ora roll? Or scone?? Jesush.
  19. I thought it was smoked salmon, & scrambled eggs. On a bagel.
  20. Hi 'GW'. Good thanks for that, will put my loop on the bigger gate then. Just one hole to dig, & job mostly done. (I think you ought to have your scrambled eggs in the shape of a G and a W on your bagels). Huge help as always chaps, appreciated.
  21. Hi there Onoff. I always appreciate/ look forward to your opinions! Great.. I think it looks ace too. Shame a bit high ind you. Yes understand the idea re.brace.. thx. I was wondering if I needed to make a sort of timber surround, to pour in the concrete, to elevate my posts' base by say 4". But if you say its ok at 18".. then that's good enough for me. Besides the tricky post position, & getting the two gates on the same exact line across, other critical thing is the gap between gates. Is 1/2" ok?? i havent factored in more you see. The main issue is positioning my post 2.. mm critical, & far from easy.
  22. Hi chaps. Ok progressing.. but made a bit of a blunder/ gone too safe re.height.. meaning my post setting in on t'other side is now 2" less depth. Just to remind you, I have a full 12" of slope from L to R. Perfect level ( in this position that is.. its a bit off level opened into drive pic 2: but i guess this is n/ a). Near perfect plumb. So my post 2 can only go in about 18" into ground at most. But it does only have a a 4 ft gate hanging from it. What do you think? What side would be the recommendation for the joining loop go, this bigger 8 ft gate?
  23. Hi there Gone West, very helpful info thanks. Yes that seems a good plan to me, I was thinking 16mm too. Yup understand the vertical aspect needs consideration to get bang on. thanks, zoot
  24. Hi Onoff. I think I get what you mean.. so if I get it stuck, drill a hole rearside & tap it out you mean? 13mm is only a figure that the chap on my clip chose, for his, using what lookslike similar hardware to mine (& post). So he drilled in most of the way, I guess leaving the pojnty end to do its own thing. But whether his square pointy bracket was thinner shaft than min.. its impossible to know. So I don't know if 13mm is correct, for mine. So, I need help in choosing a bit size, for my 19 x19mm (square shaft), diagonally it's 25mm of metal.... but taking into account my aspects which are different: IE i cannot use full hammer force, because the post is in ( so do I use a bigger dia bit? i dont have experience enough to make-a judgement). thanks.
  25. Hi Chaps, finally got my gates delivery today. So got my 1st ( higher slopeside) post in, the 8 ft gate's. A zoot job is on!! As Ive had to crack on, put post 1 in - before - hardware on/ holes ( a slim chance I could've got the right height for the holes anyway doing them beforehand ).. its dawning on me getting the holes & two fixings onto the post, is not gonna be easy. The problem is I can't whack the post's lower 'spike' bracket in as I could if the post plonked flat on ground. IE if I use the same 'full pelt' lump hammer force ( i see on my youtube clip reference) , I'll possibly damage the post. Because its concreted in & only in 30" or so, it has a bit of 'give' at the top. Especially problematic if I have to whack the post's top bracket in ( main gate weight held from, & this one adjustable ).. but it is mostly threaded rod so I dont need quite as much whacking in.. or do I? So. The diameter of the flat wood bit used, seems to me, to be really critical. Too wide.. spike taps in a doddle, but not tight enough. Too small.. & I can only get it in by full pelt lump hammering-in ( or worse.. Im simply unable to hammer it in without massive force, wrong dia chosen, then I likely damage the post, cantget it in the right depth at all = & massive stress on me = & whole job is totally ruined: I cant handle thinking of this possible situation). I cant practice on an offcut.. as I cant then get the spike out. My one main clip to follow, using similar looking hardware posts & gate, he uses a 13mm bit. But this seems too small, surely, if my square spike is 19mm ( diagonally its 25 mm). Im not sure what his spike dia was. But he could whack in full pelt of course. So maybe his spike a similar 19mm sq/ 25 mm diagonally. Does anyone understand what Im saying here? Is this intellible? thx zoot.
