Hello So, can an ASHP be too big? What happens if you get one too big? Most of the ones on eBay are bigger than I need. What do you look for on eBay? e.g. I saw this... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Panasonic-Aquarea-air-source-heat-pump-mono-block/123766732587?_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20160908105057%26meid%3D5e846c3469db42d38f0d758ffe82c585%26pid%3D100675%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D15%26sd%3D123766732587%26itm%3D123766732587&_trksid=p2481888.c100675.m4236&_trkparms=pageci%3Acd726edc-7aec-11e9-b063-74dbd180aaac|parentrq%3Ad4db63b016a0a9ca38858292ffe978be|iid%3A1 What sort of things do you need to ask about them? There's not much detail.

Haha thanks anyway!! I came across this diagram about temporary building site supplies. This is from Anglian water and we are South West Water, but might this apply? Our blue pipe is just sticking up out of the ground and doesnt have any sort of insulation...

We are down in Cornwall ?

Hi everyone Our groundworkers for our utilities are almost done and the water pipe is just outside where our kitchen will be. We're planning on having a building site supply so need to get this pipe ready for a water connection by having it feed into an outdoor tap find to the wall I presume, and we can later go into the property. Does anyone have any pointers of what I need to do to make this blue pipe into a ready tap?? I don't know where to start.

Thanks a lot

Thanks Craig, what's the reason for that if they are espag fitting?

When looking for espagnolette handles for our casement windows, this stock image popped up. I like the turning idea instead of a hanging handle, and wondered if anyone had come across any like this that might be what I'm after?

Neighbours right of way and new water pipe

No ?but I did think it would be worth checking whether it affects the value of our plot with an estate agent! -
Neighbours right of way and new water pipe
Roz replied to Roz's topic in Party Wall & Property Legal Issues
So we just saw them and they had since realised they were looking at the wrong part of their deeds - their deeds said they had this right to put in water pipes over another horse field, so seems we're all in agreement that an agreement needs to be drawn up (at their expense) if they want to lay new pipes over our land. phew! -
Any solicitors on here? ? So we have land with a track around it. We are converting a barn. The track leads to some fields, the owners of which have right of way over the track. We knew this. We are about to start some trench work to connect water and electricity down a different lane, to reach the boundary of our property. When word about this spread, the field owners thought they would 'come in' on the work and lay water pipes too, as they currently get their water off an old connection from another neighbour who were the previous owners of the barn. They're contributing to the cost of the trench They asked if they could then open the track and lay pipe down it. I said in theory this was fine but we'd want to get an agreement drawn up and this would be at their expense. They are now saying it's in their deeds to be able to dig in the track and lay pipe, even in places where there was not previously pipe. I think the section they are referring to is: "...hereby transferred a right to connect to any mains services which lie on or under the land hereby transferred, the person exercising such right causing as little damage and inconvenience as possible and making good and reinstating the land as soon as any connection is made to the reasonable satisfaction of the buyer and their successors in title." But, what constitutes a mains service? As surely there aren't any that lie on or under the land? Currently their water comes from our neighbour to the left, but that neighbour wants to cut that off as its an old arrangement and they want to go onto a meter. They want to lay pipe in a place it currently is not there. We just want to do things right, in case of any future problem or sale etc. Thanks in advance!

Hello, We are building a workshop alongside our barn conversion. It's a SIPs workshop but the floor is timber frame, sitting up on jackpad plinth foundations. We've been told to put master board on battens on the inside of each section of the floor, then rock wool insulation on top of that, then chipboard deck. We've been cutting them to size but have some gaps around edges of the masterboard. Would you advise to seal around the edges with expanding foam, or silicone, or some sort of tape? Or just leave them with air gaps? Thanks in advance! Roz

Hi Albert, We're about to give some information through a broker but this hasn't been brought up on this round. What issue are they raising when you are looking for a lender? I would be interested to know.

It's 1100mm I think so should be OK. That drawings isn't quite accurate but the barn in general is a lot smaller than it looks! I did wonder about making one of the bottom ones a window... this might be a solution if nothing else works out and we do go with this company. They think they can make it as a casement, they are just worried about the detail of ensuring it opens smoothly and doesn't have any issues with the seal and the angle of the wood coming away from each other as they're flush casement. But not sure!

Bankrupt / liquidation - reminder to use credit card
Roz replied to Roz's topic in Windows & Glazing
It might be worth mentioning that when I called the credit card company about this their initial response was that they could only refund the amount paid on credit card, it took 3 'are you sure? This is contrary to everything I have read's to get them to ask the right person and then be told Section 75 is processed in a different way and it should, indeed, cover payments from other accounts. The process is to write to them to 'invoke' section 75. Additionally, citizens advice have draft letters to help things along, and give you lots of fancy phrases to start you off. I'd recommend contacting them for anyone unsure about where to start. -
Bankrupt / liquidation - reminder to use credit card

It's a timber window supplier down here in Cornwall, but supplying nationwide. I'm reluctant to post about it until our claim is sorted, but happy to PM anyone that is worried about it. The website is down, phone number disconnected, the owner has been published as bankrupt on the insolvency register. So should be that that's it for now. Lots of unhappy customers online. -
Hi everyone We've unfortunately heard that our window supplier has gone bankrupt. It's a little complicated for us but I thought I'd use it as a reminder to pay for large items at least in part on credit card. Especially ones that will take a while to produce. Also - trust your guts, if people seem too 'salesy', maybe there's a reason. We did feel this, but built up a good relationship in the end. We won't know what really happened, but perhaps a reminder to everyone will help it not happen to anyone else. If you pay at least £100 on a credit card, and the rest by bank transfer or other card, you should be covered by 'section 75' if the purchase total is under £30,000. The credit card company should refund you the money, as they take on liability. Fingers crossed our slightly complicated case will get through the section 75 and we'll get our money back too. Sending good vibes out there!

They mentioned a pivot, I wonder if that would work. None of the other companies I spoke to mentioned an issue,so don't know if these guys are just being extra attentive to detail.

I got it, thanks! But I'm not sure if it solves their problem. I think they could fathom a square window set at an angle with 90 degree corners, but ours is a pentagon and they are concerned about the way it will open because of this. Does that make sense?

Hi In discussion with a window manufacturer, we had planning to have our apex window split into three or six sections with the middle or top middle one opening to allow fire escape. However, they are a bit confused about how to get an angled window to open properly, and wondered if I had any pictures. Do any of you have this? If so can you post pictures as the joiners are keen to see! We said we would be happy to have it tilt and turn, casement,or otherwise, as long as it suited the style of the other flush windows.

@PeterW @JSHarris ?

I'm confused, what is the problem with electrically charged sunamps? I thought the love was across the board. We had planned to use one charged on cheaper overnight electricity for our DHW as we cant afford PV right now. Then space heating directly from ASHP...

Ours are from Wunda @Nickfromwales !

Thanks everyone. I notice that @Christine Walker mentioned hers were pressurised at the time. Does this mean they need to be full of water when we put the concrete in? We haven't currently got water on site and don't see it being on site by the time the slab is laid. Thanks!
