  1. I assume DRAX falls into the 16% industrial combustion segment, Dave, which is still well under half the figure attributed to those 1.5m homes.
  2. I think it's irrelevant whether open or otherwise, the point is that just 1.5 million wood burning homes apparently account for three times the volume of PM2.5 emissions emitted by all road transport!
  3. Households in England face fines of up to £300 and even criminal records... Around 1.5m homes use wood for fuel across the UK, however burning wood and coal in open fires and stoves makes up 38% of the UK's emissions of PM2.5. By comparison, 16% come from industrial combustion, 12% from road transport and 13% from the use of solvents and industrial processes. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-64261624
  4. The key word in there is safely. Great that you and others have sufficient knowledge and skill to make your own, but I wonder if (God forbid) such a 'home spun' device were to have been installed in a property that subsequently suffered a fire, quite what the insurance investigators would conclude - irrespective of whether the device actually caused said fire. Surely the cost of commercial offerings is in part due to the safety testing and certification they are required to undergo before being approved for use. For someone like me whose electrical knowledge just about stretches to rewiring a 3-pin plug, that peace of mind is worth the price.
  5. Quick update on this story. Turns out that daughter's place is part of some BG/Hive Beta trial and what they're actually being billed bears little or no resemblance to what was being indicated on their display. Phew! Many thanks again to @ToughButterCup for the kind offer 👍🏻
  6. Isn't it time you changed your name again TBC? I'm thinking, 'The Sage', or 'Confucius' maybe 🤔 😉
  7. Could have been worse, I've just had a burger at Frankie & Benny's 🤮 Note to self, next time just ignore where the granddaughter says she'd like to eat.
  8. Sweepstake time. Which build hubbers are featured in the article. Answers below...
  9. Not really, we tend not to cook before 7pm, and no heating on at that time. Happy to do our bit though if it helps to reduce the need for dirty power stations to spin up
  10. These 5pm to 6pm sessions are not much good to us. Our typical import over that hour is less than 0.4kWh so even with everything turned off we'll be luck to have earned more than a quid.
  11. And i thought we were doing okay.... "So far you've earned 5376 OctoPoints (or £6.72) over 5 Saving Sessions"
  12. And to think some of my friends/family think I'm a bit if a nerd 🤔
  13. Thanks @MikeGrahamT21, interesting stuff. Our PV was commissioned at a similar time/rate. Until recently we've had no idea how much of what we generate is actually exported, but suspect it's less than 50%. We now have that ability so i'll watch with interest as the year progresses 👍🏼
  14. Latest session just started.
  15. Yep, we did. Worked for us. Not the cheapest but we found them good to work with. ESCROW protection on stage payments was attrractive. It was around 7 years ago now mind.
  16. So close, Dave. I think I'll have to give you that. We have three showers but only use one of them except when visitors are staying. It's been so long that the traps in both of the others had dried out. Took me a day or two to figure it out, but let's just say I ended up following my nose 😉
  17. Our loft is inside the airtight envelope.
  18. No, we've been in the house for over 5 years and this has only occurred in the last fee days.
  19. I'll give you all a clue. This was caused by something we didn't do rather than by something we did.
  20. That would have been a pain, but no.
  21. No letter box No log burner Could have been but wasn't 😉 No extractor fan (MVHR but not that) No son
