  1. No it’s just a concrete slab. How would inside a closed panel even get damp? There are no windows on this wall.
  2. The builder doesn’t “smell anything” if there are issues wouldn’t it be behind the vcl would I need to cut this open to inspect framing?
  3. I had the foreman in and he said he can’t smell anything. So I’d like to gather some evidence. there’s no pipes on that wall I also noticed today I can smell it from my bedroom sockets which is the floor above but a few metres to the right near to the end of the house
  4. Hi all, I’ve noticed damp odours coming from sockets on an exterior wall in my new home. It’s only one wall and it’s about 4 metres. The rest of the house is good. I’m afraid the smell is coming from behind the air tightness memebrane as It must havre some punctures in that area. So I’m thinking is there mould on the studs or insulation? If it were your house what would you do? Where would you start? thanks
  5. So only getting round to this now. I’m going to use an underlay with built in vapour barrier, it’s called Barrier plus and tape the joints. Should I run this tight up to the sole plate? Do I need to worry about trapping moisture and rotting timber frame? thanks Nick
  6. The sane mind would do that but. I’m an ocd maniac who worries about the trapped moisture in the sole plate I also have a very damp slab that’s taking ages to dry out. Thanks for the reply
  7. Any other ideas on how to fix this? Don’t want to make things worse
  8. Thanks for the reply thats what I was thinking to use but I would like to prevent condensation hitting the wall plate and studs. Will this prevent that from happening? I can’t understand why someone would butcher the wall like this removing vcl and insulation etc
  9. You good people are always very helpful. can you please recommend what I could do to fix this mess? it was covered up by skirting board its a harmony timber frame construction if that helps The vapour barrier is missing in this part but its in the rest of the wall
  10. When resealing baths with silicone, do you remove the screen or leave screen and join new to old?
  11. I’m lifting it today! If it’s the underlay stinking. What type of membrane could I use? Would this happen often in new homes I wonder? Ive never heard of someone floor smelling like this.
  12. I’m in Northern Ireland This all started with a funky smell now I’m stressed to bits haha. I’ve noticed the smell is in different areas of the house. I would have thought a DPM failure would be rare? Isn't it very thick plastic. Do most people have to put a membrane down on slab to stop moisture from coming up into laminated
  13. Say they fitted the DPM badly and now I’ve moisture rising through in certain parts of the slab. It being a new build home, what’s normally would be the course of action for this? Thanks lads
  14. Do you think it’s absorbing moisture and then sweating on the underlay? Thanks
  15. So if it is emitting moisture. What’s the fix? Vapour barrier under laminate and forget about it? I’ll check drains again. I do know there’s a toilet pipe running under the slab on that area
  16. Thanks Nick. I was thinking that too. My wife thought I was going mad. is it normal for the subfloor to be still releasing moisture almost a year later? do I need a water resistant membrane? Then thin sheets EPS on too?
  17. It doesn’t smell like anything’s decomposing to be honest it’s more like a damp dish cloth
  18. It’s more like a thin foil with soft fabric like backing
  19. It doesn’t smell like drains. I checked they all seem fine
  20. No windows steaming. Relative humidity is low enough in the house. only had how’s few days before laying flooring. So house had almost a year to dry out since slab way layed I think. it’s normal Egger lamainte click flooring mdf core. I was wondering that but it’s only in certain areas of the house.
  21. Yes I had a flooring company do it. They used a foil faced membrane.
  22. Im going to lift a few planks edge of room. Hopefully I can find the source
  23. Hi all, not long moved into a my new home. Few days after Laying my laminate flooring I noticed a wet mop smell. I couldn’t find the source. It seemed concentrated in middle of house. I noticed the smell has now changed to a sweaty feet smell and it seems to be central in the house and gets worse the warmer it is outside. could the slab still be wet? house was built over a year ago and it lay empty for months before I moved in. Minimal heating on during that time. anyone experienced this?
  24. Can anyone recommend a good sanitary LMN silicone Can’t seem to get a hold of Dowsil 785n anymore thanks
  25. I’ve a burrow full of rats in my garden that love to climb 8’feet walls pretty amazing to see. anyway I want them gone. Pest control put down poison did not help. I’m putting down my own traps. I purchased the “Black Cat Rat Trap” beast it is. Anyone any tips on putting traps down? Should they be in boxes?
