Water coil installation into MVHR

This is posted during the design and installation phase during the winter 2021/2022.  The cooling side results are not expected to be known until Summer 2022.

As the air passes through the water coil it changes temperature depending on the coil water temperature. If the coil is going to be used for heating only it can be used without a condensate trap. However as this is going to be used for cooling as well I have constructed a drain in the bottom.

Coil with lid off. Air flow from top of picture to bottom. Drain in bottom side of coil where air would be coldest.

This is a picture looking down into the bottom side of the coil. I have added water to test that it runs away which it does.

Because the coil is on the push side of the system ( inlet to rooms ) the condensate pipe requires a set of bends to form a sort of trap that the air would not escape from but water would.

The air pressure in my system is very low as an MVHR pushes in and pulls out air in the building at the same time, so quite balanced.

Looks good to me, I have often thought about making one of these (I used to have a land rover heater matrix but threw it away ?). I was going to use DHW from the tank as this is close to the MVHR and my build is finished so don’t want to alter things too much. Will be interested in your results when up and running.?

The coils have been positioned as near to the room inlet valves as practical so the heating/cooling from the coil is not effected by the loft temperature too much.

I expect to get results from the heating side in a week or so. Still messing about in the loft. M

my concern is mould growing in the condensate being then blasted throughout the house.

But @Marvin has shown a picture of his condensate drain below the coils. I would only use mine for heating so as pointed  out no condensate drain required.!

My understanding is that once the air has passed the coils (cold) the relative humidity is deposited on the coils and drop to the drain within the unit, the air is then drier and no further reason to create more moisture as it enters the room ?. This happens within the MVHR units which is why they have a drip tray and drain (unless enthalpic like I and some others have).
