South Devon Self Build

Ive just demolished a bungalow, built in 1938, and the bedroom walls were insulated with the same stuff, I say insulated, it was 1/2 thick. It was like new, but had sagged where it had been used across the ceilings it had sagged, we use to lay in bed and wonder at how it stayed in place.

Interesting variation on what I used. I used the 100mm thick Pavatherm and rendered directly onto that.  I see you are cladding yours with timber or something?

 

What are you doing to give the building racking strength? the pavatherm is not strong enough for that. My SE specified OSB racking panels on the inside of the frame, and much of the house he specified 2 layers of racking panels.

 

What are you cutting the pavatherm with?  I found the dust it gives off clogged my circular saw in about 2 cuts, so for a long time I had one side of the guard removed from my circular saw to prevent that (keep fingers out)

Hi Dave, yes will be clad in timber. On the inside going to fix 75mm horizontals to increase insulation depth then OSB, batten, plasterboard.  My brother used 100mm pavatherm, great stuff but very heavy. He used a chainsaw as well as a table saw. The 40mm cuts fine with my Makita 18v circular saw. What thickness OSB did you use?

Hi James, do you have any details on the junction where the bottom of the wall meets the foundation. My wall is similar to yours, did you tape/seal the membrane to the foundation. My architect has this detail for mine but I'm worried water could leak behind the membrane and then pool at the foundation level as it is now sealed by the tape.
