Disabled Access

Building control was booked for sign off

The lady that had discussed my timber ramp

had rung  in sick

A replacement was on his way

He agreed I had followed the disabled access to the letter and stated that he will add a note to the sign off paths and driveway paving incomplete Temporary ADEQUATE Disabled acces Installed

He stated that the rules are the same accross the U.K.

Its worth thinking about to those who have had to leave the outside to consenteate on the inside

Or simply haven’t got the funds till they revive there vat rebate

we intend to build that area up With sweeping paving

Pretty much like Jeremy pictured recently

It is worth noting

He also stated that many of the house builders are falling foul of these rules By not having a LEVEL

landing in front of the door

The level turning area outside the door is really important.  My friend came around to test our access for us, and advise on whether or not we'd got things right indoors, and in the loo, and he mentioned that it was a nightmare trying to turn a wheelchair through 90 degrees and lean forward to open a door if there isn't a reasonable sized flat space available outside the door.  He also pointed out that he needs room to be able to reverse his chair as the door opens, so there needs to be enough flat space to allow for that.

Glad you got through, but surprised.  I thought there had to be a surface suitable for a wheel chair from the parking to the door.  Not sure how easy it would be to take a wheelchair over that unfinished drive jn front of the ramp.  Did they raise that at all?

It’s unfinished but compacted

You can drive a car within a mtr of the ramp

This door leads to the utility

Then through another door into the  kitchen between two lots of units Around the Island then onto the living area

Totally unsuitable for a wheel chair

My brother in-laws drives his chair through the French doors at the back of the house and parks himself in front of the tv

Great acces But around the back of the house so deemed not suitable

Is that deemed not suitable according to the Regs or was this your preference?

I ask because the official front of my house faces west.

The natural principal approach is in the SE quadrant to the back door.

The simplest external door to approach via a ramp faces north and would require a longer access path a bit like the @JSHarrisimplementation.

The drive slopes towards the house so I wasn’t keen to build up the front

But BC said I have a choice between front and side

No chance for either back door

I’m not sure if that was just mine
