Big Neil
IN a new house currently where rolls of insulation go both between the rafters and across the top of them. Am going to bard at least part of the loft out. To save from compressing the existing insulation and risk going through the ceiling, can i just whip away the mineral wool stuff that's there and before boarding, throw maybe a 50 mil thick sheet of EPS underneath?will that easily solve the issue of having to cram insulaton down? I don't want to arise the boards unless I can help it
ProDave
You can buy spacers, sometimes known as chairs, to stand the boards up above the rafters.

Big Neil
considered them. Want to go straight on the board. Is the EPS idea viable do we think?

Jeremy Harris
I don't think I'd like the idea of EPS in a loft space, primarily because it's both flammable and drips molten stuff down when it burns. PIR might be a better bet, although that might then create a condensation problem, as it's pretty vapour impermeable. I think I'd stick with just using the flooring spacers, and keep the existing fibreglass underneath.
